Musician Ryan Adams cancels Dublin shows amid sexual misconduct allegations

The two shows at the Olympia at the end of March have been axed.

RYAN ADAMS HAS cancelled the remainder of his UK and Ireland tour which included two Dublin dates.

Promoters MCD confirmed that the 30 and 31 March dates at the Olympia Theatre had been cancelled, after a number of allegations of sexual misconduct against the musician had been made public.

Last month, a New York Times report said that seven women had claimed singer-songwriter Adams offered to help them with their music careers but then acted inappropriately, and he sometimes became emotional and verbally abusive.

Adams denied the claims through his lawyer, but he has faced sustained criticism ahead of his UK and Ireland tour due to start in the coming weeks.

MCD Productions said that full refunds would be issued to those who purchased tickets and this would be processed by Monday evening.

“Please allow time for the repayment transaction to hit your account,” MCD said.

I guess “innocent until proven guilty” doesn’t apply to our petty modern society

@Nikas Peckeliunas: Unfortunately, we live in a society of media and social media. I servered on a jury twice, and sat 2 court cases, and I read the news article about them when they were sentenced. The news article was grossly inaccurate, and that’s what the public read, and that’s where the outrage comes from.

There’s a lot of publications out there on a “click” rate for their website, so the more people the get through their site the more money they make – therefore, it’s favourable for them to report things in a skewed way to get more “clicks”.

I am all for people being judged fairly in a court of law, and not trial by media. But for now, while the allegations are ongoing, it’s best not to incite the public with an appearance in favour of money, i.e., hosting a concert where there may be a few intent on starting trouble, or nobody turning up.

Until the allegations have be thoroughly investigated and the situation is cleared up, the fact still remains, people’s opinion are swayed by the media and social media – innocent or not – the media, the people, have already decided if they are innocent or guilty, without even going to trial. And the fact remains, these allegations will destroy his career if they are true, and they have destoryed his career if false.

Either way, innocent in a court of law or not, he’s already been judged, tried and executed by our Judge Dredd society.

@Eugene Tyson: no , this is all wrong. Dont know or have any interest in his music, but what has he actually done to justify cancelling tours.
As far as I can see it’s claimed he’s a creepy sh!thead, nothing else. I doubt that makes him unique in any way.
Its scary that people can be ripped apart so easily these days.

Creativity often goes along with being a bit of an ar$ehole. There’s a whole spectrum in music from brilliant but grumpy Van to nutters like Phil Spector who is now in jail for murder. When being judgmental should we give creative people more licence to have ‘difficulties’ than someone like Harvey Weinstein?

@Alan Biddulph: Van is a bit like Marmite though. I love music to the point of obsession, but I can’t get into his stuff, it mostly bores the pants off me and I can’t see what all the fuss is about. I’d say he had a handful of good songs, but that’s the thing about music, tastes can be very subjective.

@James Wallace: Yea I hear you, the songs of his that get radio time bore me to death so can see it would deter people, let’s face it you won’t be inclined to neck a few yokes to any of his albums but as a complete musician he is hard to criticize, writer, composer and band leader and that’s before you consider his vocals. “His band and the street choir” is an incredible album if you have time over the weekend. It’s a feel good vibe from it.

I should have said a casual music listener may be deterred by the radio Van Morrison songs, I can’t get into Bruce Springsteen. Radiohead ,Bob Dylan or Pink Floyd. So Van may well be on your list of marmite artists!
