Two people released following arrests in Sligo over illegal money lending

A man, woman and teenage girl were arrested today.

TWO PEOPLE WHO were among three individuals arrested today as part of an ongoing investigation into illegal money lending in Sligo have been released without charge.

One man and two females were arrested on suspicion of extortion contrary to Section 17 of the Criminal Justice Public Order Act 1994 earlier today.

The man and one of the females, who were being detained at Ballymote Garda station and Carrick-on-Shannon Garda station respectively, were released this evening.

Both were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

A 17-year-old girl was also arrested but was released from custody earlier.

A garda spokeswoman added that a file in relation to the three individuals will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

    @School4work: Just did a Google search and at least 5 news articles came up showing these cigarette traders being caught and taken to court.

    About time, but they won’t do jail. Rap on the knuckles.
    The best cure for these leeches is for the gardai to seize their loan books and the judge to write all their loans down to zero. That would make this racket unattractive to these crooks.

    Pier to pier loans are not illegal . This won’t go anywhere if they have a good solicitor . If they were , business in this country would come to a standstill …
