@Dave Stewart: The printed and broadcast media are not blameless but it’s not all their fault. Individuals who delight in posting hateful and hurtful material must also carry a large measure of responsibility. You don’t have look to far on the journal.ie to find some of these individuals. Not doubt some of those will be projecting blame onto “the MSM” in an effort to deflect from their own culpability.

@Dave Stewart: Lets flip this in the spirit of equality and all that.
Say the boyfriend bludgeoned Flack in her sleep with a lamp. Blood all over the place.
Lets say that the boyfriends ex had to run to Australia to get away from the abuse, “got away with their life” as quoted by the ex.
Lets say the boyfriend dated a 17 year old girl when he was 31.
If the boyfriend had killed himself knowing this would all come out in court would anyone give a s*** about the guy? I guess not.

This has a lot more to do with social media use and mental health than just about tabloids.
What happened is a major example of a normal person getting caught in the public social media scope and unable to escape, felt no other way out. Hopefully in years to come people will say how were you ever allowed create online accounts without ID.

@Lad: or maybe it had very little to do with the media, or social media. maybe it was the fact she got confirmation her trial was going to court and she faced the very real possibility of jail on the Friday and that though drove her over the edge. Fact is we will never truly know why, but to ignore the trial and the alleged crime she committed as the potential reason is ridiculous.

Nobody really knows why Caroline took her own life. Reading between the lines in my opinion this vulnerable girl should have been admitted to a private clinic, where she could rest and take time out as her life seemed to be spiralling out of control.

You’d hardly expect them to take responsibility for it. Social Media, print media, trolls, looming prosecution all played a part in what was ultimately her decision. Until the laws around privacy, trolling, fake news etc change Caroline Flack won’t be the last to resort to this means.

@SkepticalHippoEyes: You’re not allowed to say that. The same as you’re not allowed to bring up what was said about the two rugby players who were tried on social media. The very same people that would challenge your statement are the very same people who will decide trial by social media in certain situations is ok because they believe people are guilty. They will never admit the hypocrisy in their actions. I’m guilty of it myself.

They don’t. Her family released an unposted message from her instagram account this morning. It is clear from it that losing her job and ending up in court were the biggest factors in doing what she did. ALL celebrities get abuse online, she would’ve been getting it before any assault incident occurred and there was no posting about it then.. You can’t have fame without it, whether you like it not you are there to be critiqued, good and bad.

@Daniel Murray: true , unfortunately it is too easy nowadays for people to voice all sorts of nonsense and while it is not popular to say it Caroline clearly had some serious personal problems that needed sorting – her own behaviour and actions led to her death – she clearly needed to be in rehab or private clinic as she had attempted self harm before – even the night of the incident in that last post she was claiming was “an accident” and pleading not guilty- she clearly needed help to cope thru very difficult period – blaming media is a distraction to the reality – any person in her position needs support – very sad

The amount of hypocrites that give out about the media are the same ones who will continue to use it. We all read the same showbiz stories, we all have our different opinions about them, and we all to some degree use social media, and for a lot of people its mostly to show off and get attention. Nobody will be giving that up anytime soon, no matter which forms of media you blame or condemn. The amount of people saying i would read that trash; i just dont buy it for one minute.
