    8/10 good quiz. Another mad fact about the Andromeda Galaxy is that it contains 1 TRILLION stars.

    Think about Eamo’s comment for a minute or two. It’s all well and good seeing pictured but to understand the scale of what you’re saying is almost beyond our capabilities.

    @Ben Jamen: That would be convenient but the latest science points to an excruciatingly long existence where the stars eventually burn out and it gets really cold when the lights go off.

    The closet known galaxy to the Milky Way (the question that was asked) is the Canis Major Dwarf Galaxy. The closest spiral galaxy is Andromeda.

    @Garrett Kelleher: And M31 has a 100 million solar mass supermassive Black Hole at its centre, in fact most spiral and elliptical galaxies have supermassive Black Holes in their centres. But I still got the the question right, I knew what the right wrong answer would be.
