Dublin Zoo's latest tiger cubs are now seven months old - here's how they're getting on

They’re almost grown-up.

TheJournal.ie / YouTube

THE BIRTH OF two rare Amur tigers of huge significance for Dublin Zoo.

There are as few as 450 of the animals – also know as Siberian tigers – left in the wild, so the birth of two females is of significance.

The pair made an appearance on RTÉ One’s The Zoo at the weekend, with keepers getting a rare chance to examine the cubs up close.

Serena and Alena turned seven months old this week and Ciaran McMahon, the zoo keeper in charge of their care at Dublin Zoo, told us that they are thriving.

Watch the video above for our full report. The Zoo airs on RTÉ One at 6.30pm, Saturday.

Considering tigers are known to travel hundreds of kms a day…. I’m sure they love their enclosure!

@STOIC SAVAGE: Humans are instinctually nomadic as well but most of us are confined to our homes and work :-/

@STOIC SAVAGE: are you sure about that? I’ve seen human animals behaving more like wild animals than actual wild animals do.

Truely amazing animals but sadly being wiped out due to their magnificence, superstition and habitat loss. the Sumatran tiger in particular is disappearing due to deforestation because of palm oil, imo it should be banned.

@Candace: 100% agree with you on Palm oil. It’s in most processed foods you pick up now.

Born into prison hell. They’ll never know freedom of their natural habitat of hunting and running and roaming
