6 of the best... delicious desserts that go beyond chocolate

Showstoppers for your next dinner.

NATURALLY, CHOCOLATE is the first thing that comes to mind when we think about dessert. Because let’s be honest, who isn’t a fan?

But we can all get chocolated out at times. And after a full meal, sometimes a chocolate-based dessert is just that bit too heavy.

With summer upon us, we’re craving sweet, fruity flavours like summer fruit pavlova, lemon tart and passion fruit EV-E-RY-THING! Whether you’re looking for something warm or chilled, we’ve got a selection of decadent chocolate-free desserts to end your next meal in style. Read our top picks below.

1. Passion Fruit Cheesecake, from Irish Baking Adventures: This baked cheesecake flavoured with fresh passion fruit would be perfect for summertime entertaining. Best of all, it can be made a day or two ahead and kept in the fridge until needed.

2. Lemon Meringue Tart, from Chef Adrian: Lemon meringue tart is a real showstopper, and while it takes some effort, it is most definitely worth it. This is a classic dessert worth a little extra time in the kitchen.

3. Sticky Toffee Pudding, from Pikalily: There are few desserts quite as satisfying as a perfectly baked sticky toffee pudding. Drenched in salted caramel sauce and served warm with vanilla ice cream, this is as decadent as it gets.

4. Foolproof Pavlova, from One Yummy Mummy: Pavlova is quick to prepare and can be transformed in something really impressive by decorating it with a selection of summer berries and coulis. This recipe is described as being foolproof, so if you haven’t made a pavlova before, this would be a great place to start.

5. Italian Style Bakewell Tart, from Jamie Oliver: You can’t go wrong with a fruity bakewell tart, and this Italian version by Jamie Oliver features plums and is finished off with Limoncello for a true taste of summer. Serve warm with a decent dollop of freshly whipped cream.

6. Eton Mess, from Wholesome Ireland: We all have days where we want dessert, but don’t want to spend any time in the kitchen, and that is where Eton Mess comes in! Use ready-made meringues for an ultra satisfying dessert in a matter of minutes!

The headline reads as if we’re flooded with SNAs when we could probably still do with more. It just highlights our severe lack of Garda resources

What is disappointing is the number that are full time posts. 13,000 plus SNA’s sounds great but a high number are working on fragmented hours from as little as 5-6 hours per week. That’s not a sustainable job.

Not Every child who is entitled to an SNA receives one. They may receive “half of one ” as in part -time. Some SNA’s are forced to work around 3 or more children with very complex needs in schools and the reality is that they system becomes diluted and unefficient. A person csn not be in two places at once! So ENDA is lying again….

Totally misleading…..I would image a large number of those are not full time…years ago when I worked as a SNA, a Seno decided that two children in Junior Infants should share a SNA….so the SNA asked her this question ‘If there is a fire, which child will I pick up, the one with mobility problems or the one who will bolt because I cannot carry 2′..made no difference they still had to share the SNA….

    it s all just spin.

Actually being granted the services of an SNA for a child is very difficult and the process very arduous ans bureaucratic. More spin from the gov
