THE FAMILY OF a missing Icelandic man will appear on RTÉ’s Crimecall programme this evening, with a renewed appeal for information on his whereabouts.
41-year-old Jón Jónsson arrived in Ireland to attend a poker tournament with his fiancée on 8 February.
The father-of-four was last seen at around 11am on Saturday 9 February near the Bonnington Hotel in Whitehall, where he had been staying, while his fiancée Jana had coffee in the hotel bar.
That is the last time she saw Jón.
Jón had a hotel room key card from the Bonnington Hotel in his possession when he went missing.
Jana told RTÉ she became increasingly worried as there was no sign of him all day.
“This isn’t like Jon, he doesn’t just vanish and go somewhere without letting me know,” she said.
It is not known why Jón left the hotel, and despite a number of garda appeals, there have been no leads in the case.
Twelve members of Jón’s family travelled from Iceland following his disappearance to step up efforts to find him.
On 23 February, the search intensified as a large-scale search took place. Around 80 volunteers turned up to help the family.
However, despite ongoing searches he had yet to be located.
Jón’s younger brother Daniel said that his older sibling is like a father to him and has always been “kind caring and level-headed”.
“I’ve no idea what happened to my brother, it doesn’t make any sense. But somebody knows,” Daniel said.
It would mean everything to know he’s alive, or if he’s not, to know where he is. I’m not going to give up. It’s my objective, to find him.
Jón’s fiancée Jana added that his children miss him and are “crying at night”.
“If you know something, please, please call the gardaí and help us find him,” she said.

@eric nelligan: agreed there Eric. I didn’t think this was true until 2 weeks ago I commented on an article. A comment which got 800+ likes which was removed because it didn’t agree with the journals agenda. Biased alright.
@Tim Pot: across all spectrums it takes populist positions, prints one sided pieces, it deletes comments that do not break its rules, it refuses to reply to queries.
Off the top of my head; Denis OBrien, Colm OGorman & Amnesty, Trump, Abortion, Rep v Dem, Jermey Corbyn, Pro FFG/Lab anti SF, Peter Casey, MD Higgins, Trudeau, Anti Public Sector, Pro Unionism.
The altering of fact checks.

Gemma O Doherty is the one to go to for investigative journalism. Doesn’t always get everything right, but she will retract when she’s wrong.

Could we please get a tab on the site here for Noteworthy? We have the Fora & The 42, we had The Daily Edge, why not one for Noteworthy too? If it was more visibly in front of me I’d probably engage with it more, & fund more regularly.

@Ann Experiment: Certainly a step in the right direction, weather they lean one way or the other you would hope it creates the space for more critical, investigative journalism than the usual googled dross we’re presented with.
Would like to see an investigation into the source of the $500,000 that the Iona Institute received from unknown U.S. backers for the 8th Amendment Referendum.
What I would really like to see investigated is Larry Goodman’s monopoly of the beef business and his ability to strangle the livelihoods of the beef producers!
I would like to see how Noteworthy’s funds are spent in detail per investigation.
I would genuinely love to see an investigative piece regarding what role our Garda Commissioner had in blocking the release of the ‘Over arching report’. This report has information and details regarding the RUC, UDR, MI5 and other members of the Norths involvement in the murder of over 120 civilians including the Miami show band, Dublin Monaghan etc.

I admire the fact that this issue is even being talked about. The proof will be in the details. I’d like to see the investment vrs ROI regarding holding asylum seekers. It’s a zero sum game for both parties except the owners of the holding centres.
They just want your money. They would never publish a story you give them, even if they say they would consider contributions.
Any chance they’d bring in the red thumbs so a voice could be had without having to comment
