TWO THIEVES ATTEMPTED to ram a garda car with a horse while they were being pursued by officers after an alleged incident of theft.
Two men are being accused of robbing copper from the top of a van in Lidl in Ballyfermot, west Dublin, this afternoon. They made their escape on a sulky.
Gardaí based in the region gave chase to the two men and were ordered to pull over.
A number of officers gave chase on foot when the sulky entered a housing estate. A garda van then tried to block their path. It was at this point that the sulky attempted to ram the vehicle.
Despite the officers’ pleas, the sulky driver decided to try and ram the garda car with his horse. This attempt to ram the garda van failed and the two men were arrested.
The horse was uninjured and gardaí are reviewing CCTV of the incident.

And a report from the government today saying that the public should be prevented from objecting to plans for building Traveler accommodation.
We need to see the Traveler community deal with the criminal element within their community in the strongest terms or there will never be any hope of them integrating in society. From the outside it appears this behaviour is not only tolerated but it is applauded.

Should be done for robbery, assault of Garda and animal cruelty. Give sentences for each to run consecutively and banned from having any animal for life. Ha that will happen, suspended sentence with a free course on animal welfare and back to work schemes that they will be too depressed to turn up to.

We need a new law based on their history. If they don’t live by it. What the majority currently are will be clasesd as an illegal organisation. Any site building occupied by will be shut down, any person in this group will be charged for being a member of an illegal organisation.

@THE BIRD: It’s impossible to commit the offence of robbery against any inanimate object. Robbery is theft facilitated by violence or the threat of violence against a person(s). A violent burglary isn’t robbery either, it’s aggravated burglary.

I feel sorry for the poor horse it must have been terrified.
I’m glad I’m not held responsible for all the crimes committed by my fellow settled people. Imagine being responsible for all the drug dealing, murders, rape, child exploitation and sexual abuse, theft, assaults etc we see every day in our courts. Phew, I’d be wrecked trying to stop all those upstanding members of the settled community.
@Paul Donnelly: If you were part of a small group or community that has a staggeringly high proportion of crime, antisocial behavior, unwillingness to assimilate and blatant disregard for the law and abuse of social welfare compared to the very small number of people that make up said group or community, people would have every right to make some kind of judgement of you based on the actions of those you surround yourself with, as the statistics prove you are a lot more likely to be involved in the bad behavior I mentioned above than a member of the general public.
Travellers make up 0.6 per cent of the population yet account for 10 per cent of the male prisoner population and 22 per cent of the female prison population.
Not everyone is a bigot. Some people just know how to read statistics and use that information to make sure they are not adversely affected in their own lives.
