Revenue's new sniffer dog Ralph helps seize €319k of cannabis in Rosslare

A Ukranian national was arrested following the seizure earlier today.

CANNABIS RESIN WITH an estimated street value of €319,000 was seized by the Revenue’s Customs Service at Rosslare today with a little help from its new sniffer dog, Ralph.

A Ukranian national was arrested during the operation.

The 53 kilogrammes of cannabis resin was seized when officers stopped and searched a car that was disembarking a ferry from France at Rosslare Europort.

The routine profiling involved the new sniffer dog, named Ralph, who joined the Customs team fortnight ago and was able to give an indication of the presence of the cannabis resin in the car.

A scan of the vehicle by an x-ray scanner led to the drugs being discovered concealed in the car.

The arrested man is currently being held at Wexford Garda Station.

Get him sniffing out alcohol from underage kids, domestic abusers, or chronic alcoholics, all of which are far more prevalent issues in Ireland. But we wont do that, because Alcohol is the people’s drug of choice!

I don’t think they get addicted (I could be wrong) but they have to retire them very young (about 4 or 5) in case they get cancer in the nose.

We created the demon of the black market seller of drugs by making a black market.
As soon as anything in high demand becomes illegal, there will always be people willing to take the low risk of getting caught to make a lot money.
They may have caught one Ukrainian man, with a large but relatively small amount of cannabis, but the fact is they haven’t (and couldn’t) report the many people they haven’t caught that will keep the country’s sellers and users of drugs ticking over just fine like it always has been.
Gangland murders occur when people owe money to dealers or when people want to take over a territory
It is our irresponsible drugs laws that allow any black market entrepreneur to try and bring anything they like in, contaminate/cut the product until it is much more dangerous than the real thing, and make a fortune. This fortune then goes on the human trafficked sex trade, guns, harder drugs, etc.
All that our drug laws do is make sure drugs are more dangerous, non-violent users lives are ruined with drug convictions and gangsters have profits to kill each other over.
I say we take responsibility, regulate all drugs and any profits made can be put into the rehabilitation and not the imprisonment of addicts.

There are more serious issues in this country than cannabis.Serious crime like stabbings for example.Cannabis should be taxed and regulated like tobacco. And it is less dangerous than both tobacco and alcohol.
