Appeal for witnesses after shots fired at garda patrol van in north Dublin

Neither of the uniformed gardaí in the van at the time were injured.

GARDAÍ ARE APPEALING for witnesses after shots were fired at a garda van in Darndale, north Dublin this week.

A garda van with two uniformed members was on patrol in the Buttercup Park area of Darndale on Thursday night at around 11.20pm when it was involved in an incident with a suspect car.

Gardaí said a loud noise was heard before the car took off across a nearby field in the direction of the Malahide road.

“The patrol van was later inspected and two indentations consistent with gunfire were discovered on the driver’s door. No one was injured and both garda members involved remained on duty.”

The van has since been taken for technical and forensic examination.

Frank Thornton, vice president of the Garda Representative Association said attacks such as this one are becoming too regular.

He said this “cowardly attack” is a stark reminder of the unpredictability of frontline policing faced by rank-and-file gardaí every day of the year.

“Thankfully the members involved were able to go home to their families, but incidents like these, which are becoming too regular, are sobering,” he said.

“Again the Garda Representative Association calls for mandatory minimum prison sentences for assaults and attacks on our members.”

Investigating gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact the incident room at Coolock garda station on 01 6664200 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

Trump badmouths and accuses his oldest and most staunch allies UK and Australia, condemns NATO, insults and accuses his own intelligence agencies and press. But never a bad word about and even praises Putin and Russia. How is he still president? There must be something coming real soon!!

He may as well attend the NATO “summit” which he will find about as useful a conference as your average Seanad committee meeting. And I guess Tillerson going to Russia is far more important as he will be receiving Putin’s instructions!

did anyone see the congressional hearing on Monday? it is claimed that Russia interfered with the election in return of the downplaying of nato in order to weaken their stance on Ukraine. the rhetoric from the wh seems to prove that along with Tillersons snub. if proven, there will be a nice set of handcuffs waiting for trump

A failed foreign policy driving Russia closer to China, but for the US economy the prerogative is perpetual war worldwide, and ultimately does not matter with whom.

“A China-US thaw and why Moscow is pleased.
Following US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s successful visit to China, it has been confirmed that Xi Jinping, China’s President and paramount leader, will be travel to Washington in early April to meet with US President Donald Trump.
It is fair to say that before and immediately after the election most people expected a meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin to precede a meeting between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping. In fact much of the talk in the first days of the administration was of the Trump administration trying to wean Russia away from its alliance with China and its burgeoning alliance with Iran, with China and Iran replacing Russia as the US’s primary enemies de jour.
In the event, though hostility to Iran remains a Trump administration theme, as my colleague Adam Garrie has written, it is China – the US’s great geopolitical rival in the Pacific, and the US’s greatest trade rival and partner – that the Trump administration is reaching out to first.
There is nothing mysterious about the reasons for this. With President Trump being accused by his political enemies in Washington of being Vladimir Putin’s stooge, the Trump administration is simply in no position to reach out to Russia in any public way. Were it to attempt to do so it would simply add fuel to the flames of the ‘Russiagate’ scandal in Washington at precisely the moment when it is showing the first signs of burning itself out. For the sake of its own self-preservation the Trump administration has therefore been obliged to put relations with Russia on the back-burner as it sorts out its problems back home.

America Has Been at War 93% of the Time – 222 out of 239 Years – Since 1776
    By Washington’s Blog
The U.S. Has Only Been At Peace For 21 Years Total Since Its Birth
Below, I have reproduced a year-by-year timeline of America’s wars, which reveals something quite interesting: since the United States was founded in 1776, she has been at war during 214 out of her 235 calendar years of existence. In other words, there were only 21 calendar years in which the U.S. did not wage any wars.
    To put this in perspective:

@Pat O’Dwyer: its a comment section, for your comment, not for you to copy and paste someone else’s. A nice way to do it would be to summarise it yourself and then provide a link to the original. People skip your comments because they are very rarely your own words.
