The National Transport Authority unveiled the new Leap Card in 2011. Sam Boal/Photocall Ireland

Poll: Would you like the Leap card replaced with a cashless payment system?

Plans are being advanced to introduce a cashless payment system on public transport by 2027.

WOULD YOU LIKE it if the Leap card was replaced with a cashless payment system in the next few years?

Plans for the introduction of “next generation ticketing” on public transport in Ireland are being progressed in a move which could see the Leap Card being replaced by 2027.

It will allow passengers to pay for their journey through their bank cards, mobile phones, or official ID card or passport, which the National Transport Authority said would help reduce delays to bus services.

So, we’re asking: would you like to see the Leap card replaced with a cashless payment system?

Poll Results:

Yes (5254)
No, let's keep Leap cards (3883)
I prefer cash to both (545)
I don't know (439)

And what about misleading customers with absolutely ‘unlimited’ broadband that is actually strictly limited?

@Ken Collins: I have been caught a few times after exceeding my ‘Unlimited Broadband’. My €55 bill shot up to €140+. I have been onto a TD to raise a parliamentary question on the use of the term ‘unlimited’. Using the fair usage policy as an excuse to limit your unlimited anything, be it data, calls or text messages is just wrong.

I rang to cancel and they immediately offered to cancel the increase which I rejected,Happily back with Sky and never leaving again!

Listen to all the complaints on Liveline recently. One customer had her account debited in error for €1,000+ and they said they will pay her back after Christmas even though she needs the money.

Direct debits are covered by sepa legislation these days so she can request the bank recall the payment and under consumer sepa rules she doesn’t even need a reason to recall – even though see has a reason.

Eir are shockingly bad, miss sold bundle, installation a joke, TV unwatchable due to constant glitching, Fibre broadband supposed to be over 100 Meg but is actually around 40 and keeps dropping, customer service useless, overcharged for first couple of months. Can’t wait to get out of the contract. Known issue with the router they provide but they still keep installing them.

My one and last ever experience with eircom (eir) was whist on a contract at around 7 months in a problematic fault affected our broadband and then the phone, after several attempts the fault could not be rectified, after the basic 20 phone calls they said “sure we’ll give you a new number and account number”ok” I said. I subsequently started to receive two bills! I had clarified also during the same conversation with many different telesales agents that I would not be put on another 12 month contact. “No” they said. Guess what they did put me on one and even after I lost the plot after two months of back and forth ringing engineers and getting two bills with no solution and a pain in my proverbial @ I then just took the lot out and got sky.
I thought that was that, these same amadans told me a year later ( no bills or notice to pay or else) I couldn’t have a bill phone as I owed them money from a previous home contract!! Nuts. I went around the corner to Meteor and got one and that’s a subsidiary?? Madness. Thankfully that was some years ago and you shouldn’t let my experience affect your next decision when choosing your next service provider. #bovrilflujab

Eir are total rip off merchants. I was signed up with them, unfortunately as service abysmal. No broadband and halting tv. Eventually left when upped prices. Have constantly got texts, emails and bills even though I’ve left. Can’t contact customer service as I’m not a customer. After many long phone calls , talking to five different people, they admitted they were wrong but no apology. They don’t write to tell you they’ve made a mistake. They don’t write to confirm you’ve received the equipment. Customer service is non-existent !

Spent over 30 years working for P&T/Telecom Eireann/Eircom but retired before Eir. Sad to see how a company with such huge potential has managed to be run into the ground and provide such poor product and customer service. Rot started with Mary O’Rourke followed by a succession of asset strippers. Wouldnt dream of becoming a customer now as I regard the current owners/management in the same bracket as snakeoil salesmen.

I had an issue for the last 3 weeks with eir and have called six times and been on hold collectively for four hours without speaking to someone. Eventually went into a shop and refused to leave until they helped me, was told in the eir store “we’re completely separate I dont have access to that”…. absolute worst experience I have ever had I wouldn’t use any of their services ever again if they gave them to me for free.
