LISA SMITH IS expected to return to Ireland by the end of this week, it is understood.
The former Defence Forces member who was married to an Islamic State (IS) fighter is due back in Ireland in the coming days.
As first reported by the Irish Independent, the Dundalk woman is expected to be repatriated from Turkey later this week.
It was reported earlier this month that Smith will have to undergo a security assessment when she returns to Ireland.
Smith had lived in Syria until Turkey’s recent incursion into the country. She had been captured by Kurdish forces in northeast Syria after Islamic State fighters lost control of their final stronghold.
She was being held with her two-year old daughter in the Al-Hawl displacement camp for the wives and children of Islamic State (IS) fighters.
The Department of Foreign Affairs is believed to have issued Smith and her child with emergency documents earlier this month so they can travel home.

People would be incensed being forced to pay a television licence to watch someone try to excuse terrorism or their association with it. What credibility would RTE or the government have if they choose to go this route,not to mention the danger Lisa Smith could expose herself to in light of the anger generated around Isis and choosing to marry into terrorism. Her safety and that of her child should be the over riding concern of the authorities and nothing should happen which might put them at risk including giving interviews , surely this was explained to her before her repatriation.

Fine Gael just lost my vote. I’ve been hanging onto the idea that they are the least worst option. I can’t imagine how a party could make so many unforced bad decisions. Either their values are misalligned with the majority or they are puppets to international groups who don’t have to live with the consequences of these actions.
If even a single innocent person in Ireland is harmed as a result of this decision, the moral responsibility falls on the politicians responsible. We must make it a political and perhaps legal responsibility. They are playing with fire. But we are the people who will get burned.
