Need a break? Lunchtime bike ride to cycle through Dublin streets

The 6km cycle through the city centre today is taking place as part of National Bike Week.

Dublin City Council is organising a leisurely bike ride through the streets of Dublin city centre at lunchtime today as part of National Bike Week, with anyone who has a bike (or a Dublin Bike) invited to take part.

The 6km cycle starts and ends in Grand Canal Square at 12.45 and is expected to take around 30 minutes. The route will cover the Samuel Beckett Bridge, City Quay, Merrion Square and the Pepper Cannister Church, as well as the new cycle path along the Grand Canal which runs all the way back to the docks.

Mayor Andrew Montague will be leading the cycle along with Transport Minister Alan Kelly. Prizes will be given out for the best dressed people.

National Bike Week runs this week from Saturday 16 June until Sunday 24 June. As part of it this weekend will see a Bike Festival on Fade Street in Dublin city centre on Saturday and a Pedal in the Parks day on Sunday.
