THE SONGWRITER RESPONSIBLE for classic hits such as September by Earth, Wind and Fire has died.
Allee Willis was 72.
She was also famous for her writing the theme tune to sitcom Friends (“I’ll Be There For You”) as well as the theme for The Karate Kid (“You’re The Best”).
Her “partner and soulmate” Prudence Fenton was described as being “in total shock” over her best friend’s sudden death, Variety reported earlier today. She died as a result of a cardiac arrest.
Over the course of her long career, Willis wrote hundreds of songs for artists including the Pointer Sisters, the Pet Shop Boys and the aforementioned Earth, Wind and Fire.
As well as September, she also penned the band’s hit Boogie Wonderland and the music to the film The Color Purple.
She also collaborated with stars such as James Brown and Bob Dylan.
Willis was last year inducted into the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame.
She was well-known for being outspoken on all matters musical. Last year, she described Taylor Swift’s cover of September in the following terms:
“I didn’t really think she did a horrible job. Yes, I felt it was as lethargic as a drunk turtle dozing under a sunflower after ingesting a bottle of Valium, and I thought it had all the build of a one-story motel, but, I mean, the girl didn’t kill anybody. She didn’t run over your foot. She just cut a very calm and somewhat boring take of one of the peppiest, happiest, most popular songs in history.”

I’m a little confused as to how the jury bought a story of accidental killing – followed by dismemberment.. Accidents can and do happen, but surely cutting up the body would add a dimension to the situation that would veer a long way from “accidental”, I mean, dismemberment is pretty deliberate..

Yeah I don’t get that either , I wonder if he paid off the jury ? Or is that only in the movies !
He said he was trying to avoid any attention because of his previous case with his wife. Bottom line he’s a nut job.
He probably claimed that the killing was an accident and that he panicked and tried to hide the body in case he was later blamed for ‘murdering’ him. No previous, no known motive and probably claimed he was friends with the victim and that he was sooooo sorry!
Since when are RTE non entities given the titles of legends any wonder they go around with their heads in the clouds. Ive never even heard of this one.
Well she deserves credit for being the first female newsreader in rte. But a legend ? No .

His defence team managed to convince the jury that the neighbor had let himself into Dursts apartment and had a gun,the neighbour, Black, was a well known aggressive troublesome person who no one liked, he convinced them the gun went off during a struggle but that he didn’t shoot him intentionally. Try watch the documentaries they explain it better. Why not show the lady now instead of her in 1975, or at least as well as…..?
