GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING after a foal was stabbed to death at a horse sanctuary in Longford.
The young horse was attacked and killed on Wednesday night in a yard belonging to the Hungry Horse Outside rescue sanctuary and stables.
The remains were discovered in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The horse didn’t belong to the charity, but was being housed in the stable.
Gardaí confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, with forensic tests carried out at the scene.
On Facebook, the charity wrote:
Today we witnessed something we never imagined we would. At some point last night of our yards was broken in to and an innocent foal who was not belonging to the charity fell victim to a brutal attack where he was stabbed which ultimately led to his death.
“An innocent pony, not even a year old died needlessly and senselessly and in the most brutal way. A calculated and planned attack,” the statement said.
“It’s a new low for Longford,” said Hilary Robinson, a spokesperson for Hungry Horse Outside.
Praising the work of gardaí, Robinson said that the charity had no idea why someone would have attacked the foal.
“We have no motive at the moment, we don’t know,” she said. ”It was a horrendous attack.”
“We don’t know why they passed other ponies and attacked this one.”
Robinson said that the charity was appealing for witnesses.

Pure speculation obviously, but I’m not going to surprised if the horse belonged to a family that another family didn’t get along with.

The level of cruelty in this country is shocking. Little green happy Ireland. This is an absolutely horrific example of what people are capable to do to animals in Ireland. But cruelty is happening every day ….horses are left in fields with no water or food all over the country, starving to death. Horses and other animals used to give dogs the taste for blood. People including kids beating up small horses, hitting them with bats, setting them on fire, stopping them from eating with muzzles, tying them on short ropes in housing estates, leaving them to rot in water logged fields. To these horses have no value. Government are aware and like homeless and housing and health have chosen to do nothing. Make your voice heard.

Something seriously wrong here. Even if it’s a grudge, anyone who can do that to an animal is not playing with the full deck. It’s an abomination and the person if caught should be kept away from society! It’s a very bad sign in a human to do that to an animal. . A grudge? A compulsion? Who or what is next now they have the thirst for it
A person capable of this is quite dangerous to be on the loose. I sincerely hope they are caught, and quickly.

In other news a couple who ran one of the biggest puppy farms in the country where dogs were keep in squalid conditions walked free from court today . Almost all the dogs rescued were ‘euthanised’ . Obviously no one cared enough to rehabilitate them!
If you can walk free from that cutting the throat of a poor heart is the next step ! What should the Garda even investigate such cases if the guilty get no punishment . We badly need an Animal Care Court in this county to try these cases . Ask your TD which they call to the door !

There was also a poor dog left with bite wounds untreated , who was emaciated and dumped near cashel in Tipperary . half his poor face was bitten off including his eye. The pictures are horrific. Mo chara rescue found him and he’s being treated. Horrendous cruelty all over the country. Remember animal abusers will always abuse humans too. Abusers are walking away scott free and dept of agriculture are ignoring horrendous cruelty, just ask deel rescue. Please tell election candidates no animal welfare= no vote
