GARDAÍ IN MALAHIDE are appealing for witnesses to a serious assault in which a 15-year-old sustained a stab wound in Portmarnock last night.
The teenager was stabbed in what is believed to have been an altercation between two groups of young people at approximately 9.30pm last night.
The incident took place in the vicinity of Portmarnock Beach.
The boy was taken from the scene by car to Malahide Garda Station where he was treated by Garda ASU members.
He was taken by ambulance to Temple Street Children’s Hospital where his condition is described as stable.
Speaking at Malahide Garda Station, Superintendent Gerry Donnelly said: “Gardaí are anxious to hear from any witnesses who may have been in the vicinity of the entrance to Portmarnock Beach, Velvet Strand, Coast Road and Wendell Avenue between 9pm and 10pm or to anyone with camera footage that could assist the investigation.
“Gardaí are also appealing to any persons who may have been using public transport in that vicinity and came across large groups of youths availing of transport services.”

Garda officers are currently examining the scene. No arrests have been made to date and enquiries are ongoing.

The fact that the gardai won’t give a description of these “youths” gives the game away as to who the suspects are.

Exactly! If the victim is in a stable condition,he is most likely able to give a description of his attackers.Not so long ago, descriptions were always published so people knew who and what to look out for or whether or not to ring the guards. It tells us a lot when descriptions are not published; it tells us that something is being kept from the general public,that something is being hidden and anyone with an ounce of nous knows what that is!
Another violent, horrible week.. The soft policing brigade have gone very quiet and have a lot to answer for.

We need a mayor like New York who the commissioner answers to..Not the system we have where politicians and Gardai do each other favours..We should have a vote at the end of the mayors tome in office if he/she should receive their pension..Sorted..

Need to crack down on knife crime, enough of these short sentences. Anyone that brings a knife out in public has intent to kill, judges need to stop being so stupid and start protecting the general public from these people.
@cryptodon: it takes a special kind of savage to use a knife. It’s close, personal and the act of a butcher. There should be mandatory life sentence for knife crime.

No such thing as ‘knife crime’ per se. We are dealing with a disintegrating culture populated by criminally minded human beings. Dealing with this crimes after the fact in no way addresses the sociological and cultural problems that cultivate these attitudes.

As someone who operated public transport in that exact vicinity for the past 8 years I can honestly say it not the least bit surprising this has occurred. I have the greatest respect for the garda but in this instance I find them failing. This behaviour has been going on in this exact location for many years now. Proper handling of the youth problems would and should have had it under control by this stage instead we are looking at a serious assault which could easily have resulted in a fatality. There has to be a better way of dealing with social misbehaving by gangs of youths. I’ve dealt face to face with youths in this area and on their own their not bad kids but when gangs are allowed to form the dynamics change. This is a societal issue that it’s down to parents and garda to control and enforce. Maybe this escalation will raise the profile a bit and drawn focus to an issue that is long overdue some serious attention. Garda resources… What resources? Remember that when the canvassers call to your door !!!
All of you who are suggesting the reason there’s no description of the perpetrator is because he isn’t ‘one of us’, were you the ones stating it was a foreigner who attempted to abduct the woman on Blackhorse Ave? You must have been so disappointed to learn he was ‘one of us’, born and bred here to Irish parents.
