'He had no interest at first': Nichole shares how she finally scored a smile for the camera

‘I started chasing him just to have some fun.’

EACH WEEK, A different Irish parent chats us through a family photo from Instagram and explains what was really going on outside the frame – from tantrums to toilet disasters.

This week, Nichole Corcoran (@beautybynichole_cork) chatted us through a smiley photo of her and her son Cullen.

Tell us a bit about this photo. What inspired you to take it?

I wanted to get a few photos for ourselves (I have always been obsessed with taking photos for memories) but also content for my Instagram page. I love professional photos but my absolute favourites have to be those candid photos, caught in motion, rather than posed.

What’s one thing that’s going on in this photo that you wouldn’t know from looking at it?

Cullen had fallen asleep in the car on the way. He isn’t one for naps, but if he’s in the car any time after 2pm then he is guaranteed to sleep. When we arrived he didn’t want to even walk, so into the buggy he went as we set off. Then he just wanted to be up in our arms, so I made a game out of getting photos and chased him towards the camera just to have some fun and my partner Philip captured this picture. It’s my favourite photo of them all.

Did it take many attempts to get the right shot?

I’m forever taking photos. The photo count and lack of memory on my phone will attest to that! My strategy when we’re out and about is usually to click and hope for the best, which is what I did here. I’ve taken some of my favourite family photos that way.

Do you have a family photo from Instagram with a great behind-the-scenes story?

The day at the beach when the little one ingested a mouthful of sand – or the smiley photo taken just minutes after a tantrum? If so, we want to hear from you! Email amy@thejournal.ie with a few lines about yourself and your kids for a chance to feature in What You Don’t See Here.

Garda appeal for public information – aka – Help us out when we need you. Other than that, we are fully justified in ripping you off with penalty points on perfectly good stretches of road with low limits, we’re justified in giving you a bad and condescending attitude at checkpoints and generally being unhelpful with any crime you report.

But please help us out when we’re under the spotlight.

Must agree! We were robbed before and had to find and retrieve our own items. Hmmm. And we’re then asked to name the culprits as they had robbed a few neighbours also!!

I’m truly shocked and saddened as I grew up in Ormond square and lived there for the best part of 25 years. I’m out about as long as that man is in so didn’t know him but pray for his family today.

How many stabbings is that in Dublin in the last 2 weeks?! Four? Shotgun city is now stab city. And how people used to slate limerick with this stab city tag is laughable by comparison.

According to a dublin judge stabbings are a daily occurrence in dublin, according to a consultant, st james hospital treats 1,000 stab victims a year, not to mention tallaght and the rest of dublins hospitals.

5,000 stabbings a year in dublin wouldn’t be an overly expansive figure.

But then Dublin was always stab city, the dublin media just projected it on to limerick.
