How UFOs became a US obsession
In the 1940s, a man named Kenneth Arnold was flying in Washington when he spotted nine objects flying in formation through the air. What he saw sparked the US’s UFO obsession.

For talking about his story, Arnold got more—and different—attention than he would have liked: People didn’t believe him. It was only a reflection on the glass, a meteor. He had made it all up. In his own book, Coming of the Saucers, Arnold wrote, “I have been subjected to ridicule, much loss of time and money, newspaper notoriety, magazine stories, reflections on my honesty, my character, my business dealings.” He was not happy about it, and according to the 1975 book The UFO Controversy in America, Arnold said: “If I saw a 10-story building flying through the air, I would never say a word about it.”

As with ALL Journal stories, they update them as things evolve and they CHANGE the headline but keep the comments of the original story. You frequently see comments that don’t appear to make sense if you have only just read the story. Keep your hair on because nobody wants to see innocent people shot dead.

After Eddie Hutch was murdered people were on here saying “Ah let them kill each other” And this is the end result.. A totally innocent lad murdered because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.. It could happen anyone of us.

It appears he was shot 6 times in the head. The shooting took place at the junction of Oriel Street and Sheriff street not in Noctor’s pub. Regardless of who he was or where he came from another life has been lost senselessly and another family is grieving – nothing really funny in that.
The savagery of how a human being could stand over another human being,in our so called civilised country and shoot them not once BUT six times in the head is beyond my thought process.RIP to the poor fellow who was savagely murdered and thoughts for his family.But the animal who did this horrendous act is still roaming our streets,and will probably be used again by some of “the drug lords” to do something similar again.Those who hired him to do this terrible act are equally to blame.I am sickened by this animals actions.

Somebodys son,brother,nephew…horribly murdered…in “error”…it takes a certain psychopathy to do that to another human..a total stranger.for the good of society i hope hes caught and sent down for 50 years.
Very dodgy part of the city. It has been let get out of hand for years now in the confined area of Dublin. It’s amazing how Sheriff street continues to be such a crime spot and nothing seems to have been done about it.

Yup it started as raised voices and quickly escalated, word on the street is it all started because there was only one bag if Tayto left and two people wanted it, officers arrived on the scene heavily armed with earplugs and whistles to break it up. The level of aural carnage was described as shocking by eyewitnesses.
Damn it. They’ve changed it. Now my comment looks ridiculous. At least I now know what it feels like to be Wally from the AAA!!!!
The said ‘tayhtos’ have been dutifully seized as evidence in order to be poured over hang and cheese salad rolls, at great length!!

I was commenting on the typo in the original article Fred not on the story itself. Rip to the young man though, it’s sad to see anyone lose their life and even more devastating when it’s a case of mistaken identity.
Does this type of stuff happen right beside the financial and IT centres of other European capital cities?
The fact is crime in some parts of Dublin has been allowed get out of hand. There is a serious lack of police presence around the IFSC and going for a stroll at lunch and looking straight ahead is not a police presence.
Something needs to be done about sheriff street before it get totally out of hand.

Reports indicate that it was an innocent man shot in a case of mistaken identity. This is exactly why the ‘let them at it’ mentality is flawed.

The tragic victim was wearing a similar jacket to the intended victim. Criminal gangs cannot be relied upon to kill each other. Innocent people will also be killed.
