GETTING TO GRIPS with a fast-changing property market tricky, but we’re here to make things simpler.
Each week, we’ll handpick four homes within a similar budget, to give you a snapshot of the property landscape at a particular price point.
This week, we’re looking at properties around Ireland with an asking price of exactly €400,000 – from a five-bedroom property with lake views in Mayo to a two-bedroom apartment in Dublin 6.
In Newbridge, Co Kildare, you’ll find a four-bedroom, three-bathroom detached home with a large corner site in a quiet cul de sac on the market for €400k. With almost 2000 square feet of space, it has two reception rooms downstairs and four double bedrooms upstairs, with the master having an en suite. There’s a utility room on the ground level, and the kitchen has a large centre island.
Its corner site gives this home a particularly large rear garden and side entrance, along with off street parking to the front. City commuting would be a cinch as direct access to the M7/M9 is just a five minute drive away.
If your property search is taking you to Wexford, in Ferns, you’ll find a four-bedroom, four-bathroom detached home with over 3000 square feet of space and a south-facing rear garden. While you’ll have a few neighbours nearby, the setting is mainly rural, offering a happy medium for those looking for tranquility but not total seclusion.
Off the entrance way on the ground floor, there is a living room with solid fuel stove which leads into a modern kitchen/dining area and sunroom. A rear hall gives access to a utility and guest WC. On the first floor, three of the four double bedrooms enjoy their own en suite and all benefit from views over the surrounding area.
Meanwhile, in Dublin 6, €400,000 will net you a two-bedroom, one-bathroom end-of-terrace apartment that has recently undergone an upgrade, including a recently fitted kitchen, new flooring and a bathroom suite. Upon entering, you’ll find a hallway with storage, and an open plan living/dining area that leads to the kitchen, which benefits from a range of newly fitted units and integrated appliances. Off the hall there are two bright bedrooms, and the bathroom suite.
The apartment is within walking distance of Ranelagh and Donnybrook villages, and has the convenience of local shops as well as easy commuting distance into the city centre.
Finally, in Crossmolina, Co Mayo, you could scoop up a five-bedroom, four-bathroom detached home on a large site with views of Lough Conn and the Nephin mountain range. On the ground floor, you’ll find a living room with a feature stove, a large lounge area with a marble fireplace and conservatory, a study, a solid wood shaker kitchen with granite worktops, a sunroom, bathroom and scullery.
The master bedroom on the first floor has an ensuite and walk-in wardrobe. A further four double bedrooms are located on this floor with an assortment of en suites and walk-in wardrobes. The family bathroom features a free standing bath and built in units. Outside, you’ll find a detached garage and a raised patio area with a gazebo in addition to mature plantings.

I’ve had 5 iPhones now and my current one’s battery is the worst I’ve ever had, cuts out at 10%, I plug it in and suddenly it’s 30% again so no more iPhones for me. Samsung Galaxy maybe..

One plusone are a brilliant smartphone brand but steer clear of them, they have no support here in Ireland, I bought one on eBay from a guy in France for 200 euro, alas it won’t download apps and anywhere I’ve taken it for a repair won’t touch it.

Up to 128gb. It’s an unbelievable phone. Battery lasts a day and I’m very hard on a phone. It’s never lagged in the 3 months I’ve had it. I got it on 3 the day it was released. My other half has an S7 and it’s hard to justify spending over €200 more on a smaller screen and no better performance.
TOO EXPENSIVE FOR ME…
I have a DOOGEE T6 and the battery lasts me a week on one charge. Great Phone.
