AMERICAN SINGER PINK is recovering after testing positive for the coronavirus and says she is donating a million US dollars to emergency funds.
The Grammy Award-winner said she and her three-year-old son Jameson had shown symptoms of Covid-19 and that she tested positive.
Posting on Twitter, she said they had since been re-tested and were “thankfully negative”.
The 40-year-old, born Alecia Beth Moore, said it was “an absolute travesty and failure of our government” to not make testing more widely accessible in the country.
Calling the illness “serious and real”, she said:
“People need to know that the illness affects the young and old, healthy and unhealthy, rich and poor, and we must make testing free and more widely accessible to protect our children, our families, our friends and our communities.”
Adding that she would donate $500,000 to both the Temple University Hospital Emergency Fund in Philadelphia and the City of Los Angeles Mayor’s Emergency Covid-19 crisis fund, she said: “Thank you to all of our healthcare professionals and everyone in the world who are working so hard to protect our loved ones.
“These next two weeks are crucial: please stay home. Please. Stay. Home.”
The number of people infected in the US has reached 250,000 and the death toll climbed past 6,000, with New York state alone accounting for more than 2,900, a surge of over 560 dead in just one day. Most of the dead are in New York City, where hospitals are being pushed to breaking point.

@: my mate works in Blanch hospital, be had a cough and fever on Tuesday, called to report it, was tested in his car in blanch hosp car park next morning and got the results back the following day. I now its a single anecdotal case but there is a process for prioritising high risk cases.
Shortage of testing reagents is slowing the results, or making some tests null and void, hence people not hearing back but who have recovered.

I can’t post links or the journal will delete my comment, it’s confirmed to be happening in many countries including the UK and US, not a stretch of the imagination that the same is happening here in Ireland where we have private healthcare clinics, although I never claimed that the same was happening in Ireland (re-read my comment).

Good for him, I’m sure staff are doing their best and prioritising who they can. You can’t dent thaf there’s a shortage though. And unfortunatly, as a result, the definition of “priority” has become pretty severe. I know a girl on immunosuppressive medication for a liver issue who couldn’t get tested, despite showing all the symptoms.
I’m a little shocked that people think my comment was controversial, this issue of private clinics keeping test kits is pretty well known. Like there’s money to be made on it, what’s the big surprise?
@Bain triail aisti: he must have had good contacts though.. my sister works in Tullamore hospital. Symptoms came on two weeks Today, tested following Friday and do not have results back yet.

@Mark Murphy: I don’t know how you got any of that from my post Mark. I have no problem with anyone getting tested and getting results back quickly regardless of who they are. My point was only that her retest prevented someone from having a first test.
@Logan Shepherd: eh the only way to know if you have recovered is to have a retest. How do you think they know when to release people from hospital or to let people know they can leave self isolation?

@Logan Shepherd: This is the US. Virtually everything is privatised. You buy treatment. That’s how it works there. So Pink having a test is not stopping anyone else having a test providing they can buy it. The bulk of the US population can either pay for a test or try to get their insurance company to pay for a test. If they aren’t rich or insured they are screwed. That their system. It’s social Darwinism but that is the way the entire country is set up. Criticising a celebrity for doing what their system requires is the height of stupidity. Their system sucks. And they still think they have the best health system in the world.

There is no value in retesting for negativity or ‘test of cure’ as its known among medical professionals.
It just puts further stress on an already stressed system and wastes an important test that someone else could have benefitted from.
@TheITGuy: Really? Honestly never realised that. I would’ve assumed they’d have to test again to verify a negative status after a positive
@TheITGuy: Not true. Patients who seem to have recovered from symptoms can still be positive as the virus is not really cleared. That’s why in China they test three times, first to confirm the case, second and third after treatment and only those who have two negatives can be counted as recovered.
