Single ticket wins bumper Lotto jackpot of €9.7 million

The jackpot has been rolling over for 11 weeks.

THERE WAS ONE winner of tonight’s Lotto jackpot, with the ticket holder set to claim over €9.7 million.

The Irish Lotto jackpot has been rolling over since 1 February, leading to tonight’s big win. 

No location for the winning ticket has yet been announced but the National Lottery has confirmed that there is just one winner.

    Haha I don’t think anybody outside of Kilkenny actually thinks it is a city (including the government, who actually decide on these things!).

    It’s always funny when you hear people claiming it is a city though!

    I concur Patrick. That was my point, that the north of the island, of which Donegal is an integral part, is routinely ignored by those partitionist selective-memory lot in the south.

    Glenties (winner of Tidy Towns 5 times) and Ardara are quite nice small towns. Killybegs could be nice if they cleaned the place up.

    Isn’t the north beyond Bord Fáilte remit? The Northern Ireland Tourism Board are responsible for that. Next you’ll be complaining the HSE aren’t putting any primary care facilities in Antrim..

    I’m not saying that it isn’t great, or that visitors don’t make it North. I’m saying that the people in the south of this island generally don’t care about anything that happens in the north of this island, Donegal included. And that’s sad. You may have got your independence, but as time goes on people in the south are turning uglier in terms of their attitude to what is an integral part of this island.

    Bord Fáilte? Tourism Ireland is an all-island body. Besides, my point remains, Fáilte Ireland deliberately excluded towns in the North as they focus predominantly on the south, which is unfair.

    The 6 counties of Northern Ireland are not in this country, doesn’t mean we don’t think that there are many beautiful cities/towns villages up there.

    The unfortunate reality it’s that the north, for many is still very stigmatised. Often when I would head up to the Mournes, I’d have to go through some very shady areas to get there. Not to say that a few lowlifes should detract from the beauty of the north or overshadow the warm hospitality of the vast majority of its people, but the murals and bunting do a lot of harm.

    @Caolan McKenna Tourism Ireland is an All Ireland body, Failte Ireland is for the Republic of Ireland and The NI Tourism Board is for Northern Ireland, why would Failte Ireland feature NI towns seeing as it has nothing to do with them?

    Cobh is without question the biggest disappointment when u go there. Nothing there, dirty and view over to power station at Whitegate ain’t all that.

    Agree about Donegal missing our always.

    Went there a few weeks ago – a liner was docked, sun was shimering off the sea, place was spotless (has done very well in the tidy towns the last few years). I thought the views out over the harbour are spectacular. Can’t really think of another town of Cobh’s size with views like that – did you go to the cathedral area and look out over the harbour?

    I actually own a place down in Whitegate which looks over to cobh. I have not been there in 2 years. It would have to have changed mightily. The drive in has that horrid glass plant, then the view from catherdal is of Whitegate refinery & aghadas Power station.

    I’ll say this much about cobh, it does have the potential to be great again. But the front along the commodore is ugly. The mackerel fishing off peer is excellent however.

    My point is these ‘box stores’ come into towns usually on the periphery on said town and completly decimate the small retailers that are the heart of the community.andso all you are left with is pubs bookies and takaways.you can see this happening all over this counrty and its a crying shame.

    Yes Jenta, Kilmore, Duncannon, Carne, Hook are as beautiful as anywhere in Ireland. Enniscorthy has its economic problems but it is rich in culture, history and heritage, with Vinegar Hill, The Castle & 1798 Centre. Not to mention nearby Oulart Hill, Boolavogue, Blackwater village and Kilmuckridge. More should be made of our rich literature and arts heritage too – Eileen Gray, Colm Toibin, John Banville, Eoin Colfer etc…

    Westport is great craic altogether. Massive amount of high quality and varied and free music in the pubs all year round. Loads of arts, music, food festivals. Locals genuinely interested in visitors. Its not all about the money. The only down side l can see is it may be becoming a victim of its own success as its so busy the traffic can be a bit chaotic
