Man dies after fall on ferry in Aran Islands

The man died from injuries sustained in a fall on a ferry he was working on over the weekend.

A MAN HAS died after he sustained head injuries in a fall on a ferry docked in the Aran Islands over the weekend.

The man, 73, had been working on the Ceoil na Farraige ferry on Inish Mór in the Aran Islands when its reported that he fell in a stairwell.

Valentia Coast Guard said that it received a call for assistance just after 11.30am on Sunday morning and a helicopter was tasked from Shannon.

The helicopter arrived on the scene just before 12.15pm and with assistance from the north Aran coastguard the helicopter transported the man to Galway University Hospital where it arrived just before 1pm.

The man subsequently died from his injuries, the Irish Times reports this morning.

RIP poor man, but 73 years old working on a ferry, not to sound ageist but seems negligent of the ferry company, ferry stairs are dodgy for most people.

william why is it you can’t just leave it at r.i.p or condolences to his family.. You done the same on another story too, weather the man was 73 or 30, he has died in an accident. Have a bit of respect.

This isn’t a story, this is real, this is news. Sadly the poor man involved is not in a position to read the article. I am deeply saddened for his family’s loss.
And then the fact that he was 73 years old brought some questions to my mind. I didn’t mean to upset any of his family whatsoever, if I did I am truly sorry.

Katrina are you doing a general health check on my comment habits, seems so (how do I go into peoples past comments anyway) gives the impression that unless I approach a news item in a certain way then my opinion is not welcome. I will respond to the news as I do because that is how I feel about what I am reading. If you don’t like it…tough.

ah william im not stalking your comments dont worry.. i seen a previous comment you made relating to the circumtances around the death of a young lad.. and now this, you are of course intitled to your opinion, but i do think when family and friends may read such comments it may come across as disrepectful.. sometimes with news stories such as these our opinions should be kept to ourselves.
