Poll: Will you go to a shopping centre this week?

Shopping centres across the country are set to re-open their doors from today.

UNDER THE GOVERNMENT’S accelerated roadmap to re-open Ireland, shopping centres across the country are permitted to re-open today.

While some centres have remained open to allow access to supermarkets and pharmacies, many shops inside remained closed since March.

Things will look and feel a little different when shoppers turn up at these centres from today as the government has said outlets can re-open provided “measures are taken to ensure people do not congregate at benches, fountains or food courts”.

Many of the measures recommended by the National Standards Authority of Ireland last week relate to ensuring customers maintain social distancing by way of appropriate signage and moving along defined routes.

Some of the country’s largest shopping centres have confirmed they are to re-open today, with the Hammerson group, which runs Dundrum Town Centre, the Ilac Centre and Swords Pavilions in Dublin, among those confirming they will open.

So, today we’re asking you: Will you go to a shopping centre this week?

Its getting harder for NPHET and the government.
Can they explain how Waterford is something like 99.8% vaxxed but has the most cases while Monaghan has the least vaxxed and least cases? Hard to blame the few unvaxxed left in Waterford for it.
I wonder what could be spreading it but hey, roll up for the booster and that’ll sort it!
Thankfully plenty of the vaxxed are now seeing it and will not be lining up for the booster.

@Dave Harris: Nope the virus will do what a virus does mutate and spread. The enemy is the government, sowing seeds of division, implementing baffling rules and generally being happy to have such a ridiculous level of control over people’s lives. There’s an almost weekly blame game set out by the media. This week it’s the clubs.

The virus is the enemy, the government are responding to it and too many people are intent on completely ignoring both

This is just the start of the restrictions again…been good & got vaccinated…stayed locked down, now were back here again…whats the solution, more restrictions, more vaccine shots, so when this doesn’t work what then…more restrictions, more vaccine shots…blame the unvaccinated who are majorly in the minority…they no more have a handle on this than they did nearly 2 years ago.

The wording you’ve used makes it sound like you’re talking about two groups of people who have been split by pure chance and circumstance. Vaccinated people aren’t lucky. They made a choice. So did unvaccinated people. They’re not some poor underprivileged group who are getting left behind through no fault of their own. It’s up to them. Keep banging on about how it’s their choice, you’re right, it’s their choice that has them where they are.

What’s the complication? The government already knows when a patient received their second vaccination dose.

NIAC are also dragging their feet. Other countries have opened up the booster programme to anyone aged 18+ who has been fully vaccinated for at least six months. Do boosters in Europe work differently to those in Ireland?

Lads we have the technology. If they can’t implement a simple booking system with a six month check, I’ll do it for them.

The over 50′s were stuck with J &J vaccine 1 jab , will they have a choice between the two boosters offered. This has been an incredibly slow rollout pure and simple, while the youth danced the night away only to help spread the virus

@Ger Murray: imagine….the youth going out when restrictions were lifted. How dare they attend nightclubs after they open following 1 and a half years of being closed. Its almost as if they were attempting to enjoy themselves.

@Ger Murray: yeah time is when they are advised to open by government and place would be any appropriately licenced premises. I’m still not following the issue here?

Why did they not give consideration months ago to adding to ICU capacity? Surely on a cost benefit basis t they should have worked out the formats of increasing capacity vs the economic consequences of further restrictions! Increases in numbers are inevitable, notwithstanding good intentions, given the fatigue and mental health issues at this stage.

All the new restrictions will have zero effects unless properly policed with relevant penalties for establishments and people found in breach!!!

Seems a no brainer in relation to the booster jabs for the over 50’s and those with underlying conditions but they are only now coming around to it! All this should have been very predictable with a little bit of foresight and planning!

Does Catherine Murphy not realise that there has to be a 5 month gap between second shot and booster??
