THE NATIONAL PUBLIC Health Emergency Team (NPHET) will meet today to discuss the restrictions placed on Kildare, Laois and Offaly, and if they should be lifted.
On Friday 7 August, the government announced the fresh restrictions for the three counties amidst a spike in Covid-19 cases linked to outbreaks in meat processing plants and Direct Provision centres.
Under these restrictions, residents in these counties have been asked not to travel outside their county, only undertake essential travel and pubs and restaurants were told to shut.
When announced, the government said these measures would last until midnight on Sunday 23 August.
It is expected NPHET will discuss the latest developments in these counties regarding Covid-19 and convey its recommendations to the government on the next steps.
Last night, a further 54 cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Ireland bringing the total to 27,547. Already this month, there have been more new confirmed cases than in June and July combined.
The situation in hospitals, however, has remained relatively stable.
At 8pm last night, there were 16 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in hospitals across Ireland.
There were six Covid-19 patients receiving treatment in a critical care unit yesterday evening, while three people were on ventilators.

I often read posts here about journal having weak stories and think what a bunch of moaners. But now seriously, journal you can’t publish an article about a ‘little known app like messenger’. Everyone uses messenger and there’s not much need for a tutorial on a news site
Always on the cutting edge of new technology eh journal? Not really.

Young persons of my acquaintance made me aware of this some time ago. However, since I’ve no interest in Facebook (or Facebook lite) the information wasn’t much use to me.
i use this in work and i also use whatsapp web which is also very good and also owned by Facebook
Being an auld one (in terms of tech) I hadn’t a clue what this was. So you’re going to get at least one thank you anyway for writing this article ;)

Firefox has an add on that disables your news feed. Very useful as the news feed had turned to crap with adverts and posts from people I don’t know and you can still post happy birthday to friends’ walls etc. Just no more stupid posts.
That would be all of them then.

Jeez I’m 68 and I’ve been using messenger to chat with almost all my acquaintances for a year now ! Little known ! Like Brennan’s Bread ! Of course you must have a Facebook account…. And real butter for the Brennan’s !
