NO FURTHER PEOPLE have died from Covid-19 in Ireland, the Department of Health confirmed this evening.
In a statement, it said that a further 61 cases of coronavirus have also been confirmed here, bringing the total number of cases to 27,969.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Ireland is 1,777.
Of today’s notified cases:
“I know that at times we can all feel powerless against Covid-19. But we are not. Each of us has a range of simple tools at our disposal – knowing the risks, washing our hands, not touching our faces, keeping physically distant, avoiding crowds, limiting visitors to our homes, and wearing a face covering,” Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn said.
“But the most powerful tool of all remains our solidarity with one another – by encouraging each other to stick with the basic measures and by continuing to act and adapt together we can suppress the transmission of this virus once again.”

This is nothing to do with a secure system. This was a sustained DDOS attack. There is little they could do. And i would certainly not call these guys hackers. Just people with nothing better to do on Christmas other than try to ruin it for others
Yeah but if sony and microsoft invested properly into their systems, they wouldn’t be brought down as often as they are. Whilst I hate the way lizard squad have acted, they highlight the massive flaws in their servers.
A DDOS attack is an emulation of what happens when say a major concert is selling tickets and you want to buy the connection slows down and times out. The same thing happens with a DDOS attack only its caused by shitebags ,its very easy to do requires no skill but if you are caught you’ll pay the price blackhat and whitehat offenders get bigger jail sentences than dangerous crimninals,
Yeah I know what it is; they flood the servers with traffic until it crashes and service is stopped, hence the name dos ‘denial of service’. My point is, other companies have been ddosed before but learned their lesson and invested in their servers. Sony and MS (MS to a lesser extent) have failed to invest properly and this is what happens. It’s ridiculous being forced to pay €50 a year for servers that crash because of a couple of smart lads who’ve nothing better to do at christmas. Obviously lizard squad are d*cks but they show how sh*tty Sony and MS are and what a waste of money it is being forced to pay for a supposedly ‘better service’.

I feel bad especially for all of the kids who got Xbox Ones for Christmas. The console can’t be used until you download an update which of course you can’t do when Xbox Live is down. A lot of disappointed kids staring at blank screens until Lizard Squad arbitrarily decides to let them play it.
On another note, it comes across as completely unacceptable for us to pay €50-€60 a year in a service so under maintained that some idiot in his bedroom can take it down seemingly at will, even with prior warning.

The guy in the bedroom analogy is just to make a point. They’re hardly state sponsored super hackers. They’ve even said that their whole existence is to make sure that developers and hardware manufacturers invest more in infrastructure. They’re right of course, but ruining Christmas day for millions of kids isn’t the way to go about it.

These guys are not real hackers, they are what you would call script kiddies.
They just use a bot and rented servers to ddos the xbox and psn servers.
Essentially the overwhelm the servers with bogus requests which cause the servers to fail.
Not a lot.of skill is required
I believe you can download the initial update on Xbox One from xbox.com onto a usb drive or a disc, and then load it on to the Xbox for those who could not log on yesterday, or have no internet access.
Nothing is unhackable at best “it hasn’t been hacked yet” new security is cracked in days, plus DDOS uses other people’s machines to flood servers rather than hacking the server itself.

Lads just play offline like the good old days for a few days. Maybe a multi player with your friends actually in the room :p

You can with playstation but the Xbox requires an initial download before you can do anything with it
I brought the ps4 home and mams tv is without hdmi so that was the end of that. Maybe I’ll set up the Nes and play mario 3.

I finished my build yesterday! Arma III, DayZ, (full size) Minecraft, ended my long standing xbox subscription two days ago. I wish all ex-gen console’ers a happy new year :-p
Conor man check out Starmade is you like minecraft. There’s a demo on steam that is the full version while it’s early access. It ate 30 hours of my life within a few days when it released. Great addictive game.
Will a game released in 5 years time work on your PC?
Probably with minor upgrades where as ur collection of disk based games become obsolete with both Xbox & PS moving towards cloud.
Mine should run everything right up to the release of the ps5 and xbox two no bother at all. It’s two years old already and only cost a grand total of €600 to build.
Console users are just beta testers for the real gamers.
Don’t even try to argue a console is better than a PC for gaming.
It’s better for people who prefer console gaming. PC is better for people who prefer pc gaming. I’m aware I’m pointing out the obvious here, but I feel I have to, unfortunately. I pc game. I also console game (mostly ). I just don’t understand how some pc gamers blabber on about “master race “. Pc gaming suits some people better. Console gaming suits others. That it. No master race. Just preference.
I was primarily a PC gamer, even Amiga before that, rather than NES or megadrive, but once you settle into your own family life, the convenience of consoles cannot be beaten. PC gaming, these days are not as bad, but to be honest, the latest games, many will require the latest hardware to see the game as it should be. I do not see the point of buying a game, and running it at 60-70% of its true potential. That is the trade off….. I am not going to buy a graphics card every time a big game is released…..

Seriously Journal? You do know that ‘lizardsquad69′ was just some lad who made an account and people believe he’s part of the lizard squad. Don’t believe everything you read on the internet, loads of trolls from reddit saw PSN and XBL get taken down by the lizard and finest squads, and decided to take the piss out of everyone. There’s dozens of ‘lizardsquad’ accounts up on twitter now.

They’ve a pretty long history doing this kind of thing and announced the attacks a day in advance on christmas eve….
Also have nothing to do with the fact that millions of new consoles connect at the same time either….
