10 under-€75 living room picks from Scandi retailer JYSK - and how to style them in your home

Wondering what the Danish homewares staple has to offer? Check out this curated selection of pieces.

A HOMEWARES STAPLE in Denmark since the late 1970s, JYSK launched its first store in the Republic of Ireland in 2019.

Since then, the brand’s budget-friendly furniture, accessories and soft furnishings have been popping up more and more on Instagram and in Irish interiors magazines, but it’s still something of a dark horse compared to other flatpack favourites.

So is the Danish retailer worth a place on your online shopping list the next time you’re considering a mini home makeover? Starting with living rooms in mind, our interiors writers have done some of the legwork for you and rounded up ten pieces that are worth a look, all with a price tag of under €75. From trinket boxes to drinks trolleys, here’s some inspiration to get you started…

1. RANDERUP end table, €11.50

Small tables are great for filling up any empty space, be it a gap between the sofa and the wall or any little alcove. Stick to the rule of three when it comes to styling this RANDERUP end table. Add a vase of flowers, a photo frame and – most importantly – a light, to cosy up your space and create a reading nook in an instant.

2. KABDRUP storage chest, €70

Good, unobtrusive storage is the key to a tidy lounge. This KABDRUP chest with its deep shelves would fit neatly in the corner or work as a TV stand, and leave plenty of opportunity to hide away any clutter quickly.

3. DOKKEDAL coffee table, €50

This DOKKEDAL coffee table would be ideal for a smaller living room as it’s lightweight and not bulky, allowing air to circulate and freeing up the floor. It’s also down from €99 to €50 right now. Perfect for putting in front of the couch or against an empty wall.

4. ILBRO shelves, €20

Bringing storage off the floor is another way to save space in a small living room. These floating shelves would be great for highlighting some favourite trinkets, greenery or books. They come in a set of three and in differing sizes, so you can style them up with ease. They cost €20 when bought online and €26.99 in store.

5. GANGSTED trolley, €64.99

The GANGSTED trolley has an oak veneer and black metal frame that’s simple enough to meld with most interior aesthetics. JYSK’s lookbook shows the trolley in both a living room and home office setting, but it’d work just fine as bedroom or bathroom storage too.

6. ARE baskets, €12.50 each

With integrated handles and sturdy woven rattan, the ARE basket is a level up from lighter, flimsier bamboo storage – ideal for storing toys or other living room clutter. Get one for €12.50, down from €14.99, until August 26th.

7. PADBORG planter, €45

JYSK’s outdoor furniture and accessories have earned the brand plenty of positive attention this summer. This PADBORG planter, however, would look just as good inside as out. The high rim will hide any unsightly plastic plant trays, allowing your greenery to peep over its black metal frame.

8. SIGVARD bamboo pendant light, €29.99

Pendants are a great way to anchoring a space and this natural bamboo SIGVARD pendant will do just that. Even if you rarely use your ‘big light’ and rely on smaller lamps may create the ambience, a large ceiling lampshade makes a great statement. Play with hanging height and see what looks best.

9. VIKEN jewellery box, €10 a set

Aside from furniture and larger accessories, JYSK also has a sizeable range of smaller trinkets, like these VIKEN jewellery boxes. The glass-and-brass combo would look beautiful stacked on a side table or mantle, while highlighting any of your prized possessions.

10. TOMMY brass lantern, €12.99

A vase in the summer and a candle holder in winter, lanterns can be adapted throughout the year to jazz up any table. Tall, dried flowers are best as they are low maintenance and draw the eyes upward making the room feel fuller and more lively. The blush pink works well with the brass and glass of this TOMMY lantern that contrasts beautifully against the black table.

The whole ‘parliament’ thing needs to be examined – It is not democracy to go to the pub then pass legislation that affects the whole population and then not listening to the opposition or not allowing them to talk.

@eastsmer #IRExit: It’s one this to describe the forum examining Dáil privilege as an “expert one”, but exactly how does Mary Hanafin and Conor Brady qualify as legal or constitutional experts?
As far as I can see the only thing they both have in common is an innate ability to look after their own interests and Hanafin ‘obtained’ a diploma in legal studies from DIT. Doesn’t exactly inspire confidence, another outcome written before the forum meets.

In a recent case taken by a certain Denis O’Brien, the Supreme Court ruled that Dail privilege is an absolute right defined as such in the Constitution. So the C.C. has no right to curtail it. The people alone have the right to censure a TD by declining to re-elect him. In a country where there have been too many secrets for too many decades we should value Dail privilege highly now that we are finally electing some TDs with the courage to use it.

There is no basis for using the Dail’s rules to science an individual member. The TDs do not answer to each other. They answer to us.
