The 5 at 5 5 minutes, 5 stories, 5 o’clock…

EACH WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you five things you need to know before you head out the door.

1. #MICHAELA: The two men accused of killing 27-year-old teacher Michaela McAreavey while she was on honeymoon at a Mauritius hotel in which they worked have been found not guilty by a court in Port Louis. More details about the jury’s decision can be found here.

2. #ECONOMY: Ireland’s economy shrank by more than one per cent in the first three months of 2012, according to the latest figures from the CSO which has blamed a drop in both exports and personal consumption for the poor performance. However, there was some good news on the financial front today as Ireland has once more satisfied Troika targets.

3. #DEVON CRASH: An investigation into the road crash that led to an Irish toddler’s death in Torquay in the UK is to examine whether police were in pursuit of the other vehicle involved in the incident. Oisin Twomey’s parents, Con and Elber, remain in a serious condition hospital following the fatal collision last Friday.

4. #MUGGING: A 35-year-old man has been charged in connection with the mugging of a female pensioner in Kilkenny on Monday. Mariusz Chelstowski appeared before a Carlow court today accused of robbing a purse, and up to €200, from Mary Nolan as she walked up Walkin Street in the city.

5. #COUNTDOWN: With just over a fortnight to go until the start of the London 2012 Olympics, Saudi Arabia has decided to send female athletes to the games for the first time ever. Two women – judo athlete Wodjan Ali Serai Abdulrahim Shahrkhani and 800-metre runner Sarah Attar – will create history when they compete as they end the Muslim country’s record of fielding only all-male teams.

You would want to be made of stone not to be affected by this tragic story. Her youngest child won’t even have any memories of his mother. Taken from her family way too soon and so unnecessarily. It’s heart breaking.
