The Green List has been cut to just four countries - and Liechtenstein is now one of them

The new Green List will contain Cyprus, Finland, Latvia and Liechtenstein.

FROM MONDAY, THE government’s air travel Green List will be cut from seven countries to four.

Joining Cyprus, Finland and Latvia on the list is new entrant Liechtenstein. In the case of the first three, quarantine, testing or other restrictions are in place for arrivals from other countries including Ireland.

Germany, Poland, Lithuania and Iceland will be removed from the Green List.

Under the green list travel advisory, people can travel to the countries on the list for non-essential travel and return to Ireland without a need to restrict their movements.

However the Level 3 restrictions currently in place in Dublin apply for both domestic and overseas travel, meaning people in the capital won’t be able to go abroad except for essential reasons. People from Donegal will also be encouraged not to travel abroad as it enters Level Three.

The advice for people in other counties is to avoid non-essential travel abroad, other than to countries on the Green List, where the advice is to take normal precautions.

So, until Sunday evening, people will still be able to return to Ireland from Germany, Poland, Lithuania and Iceland and not be required to restrict their movements upon return.

However, from Monday morning, they will have to restrict their movements if returning from these countries.

On 15 September, the government agreed the Green List will be updated on a weekly basis.

The new system will see EU/EEA countries with an incidence rate of fewer than 25 Covid-19 cases per 100,000 people in the past fortnight included on the Green List.

This system will remain in place until the EU’s new “traffic light” system comes into force. This is expected to happen next month.

Airlines have repeatedly criticised the government for its approach to air travel during the pandemic.

Updates are made to the Green List each Thursday to take effect the following Monday.

@Its Me: Dubs would have to self isolate and get a test done to get in Germany anyway so just write it off unless these 4 places show up.

@Paul Cunningham: you only have to self isolate in Germany while waiting for the results of your test.
Tests can be taken at the airport, cost 70 EUR and results are ready within 12 hours. You’re free to go to your accommodation while waiting for the results.
Germany has a proper process to deal with arrivals from high risk EU countries, unlike us with the completely pointless green list.

@Luke Windak: yes, but only for arrivals from high risk countries. Tests were free for all arrivals until the 15th of September. We are on the high risk now so you’re correct, it’s in theory free of charge, but the Centogene lab website does not make that distinction for Frankfurt airport, maybe it’s only free at the Red Cross test centre?

As stated in court last week by Government, there are no Restrictions, only Advisories and Guidelines. No law there to stop you all

So off you all go, book yer flights, go where you feel safe. Don’t mind this pointless Green list bunk, tomorrow and the day after it will be some other country, plenty of flights coming in and out of this country from countries not on their ridiculous unenforceable lists.

Absolute joke. Forget the whole green list if they are going to be so ridiculous about it. What is the actual point of it since, even if you actually want to go to one of the few countries on the list, you can’t plan more than a week in advance in case it gets taken off due to some arbitrary number. Germany for example is doing a lot better than we are and yet you have to quarantine if you come from there. Why? They are going to completely destroy the country with their nonsense

I could get why other countryside might bar us coming but can’t understand why we shouldnt travel to countries that have less then half our incident rate if they are cool with it.

Let’s put Germany on the green list because they are doing so good. One week later… Actually let’s remove them because Ireland does a bad ass job at keeping their numbers at bay. Seriously why do you even bother with this green list. I had a flight booked to Germany this weekend. Now I had to abandon my plan once again.
The test takes 48 hours to come back and I would have only been there 3 days.
