Concrete action: Bruton announces 41 new jobs for Westmeath

A €3 million investment has also been revealed by local manufacturer Shay Murtagh Precast.

JOBS MINISTER RICHARD Bruton has unveiled 41 new jobs at a Westmeath facility which produces pre-cast concrete products.

Shay Murtagh Precast Ltd has created the positions after a €3 million investment in state-of-the-art technology for the production of concrete tunnel segments – a growth area targeted by the manufacturer for the past number of years.

The 31-year-old company is hoping to expand its already significant export-led growth. Currently, exports account for more than 75 per cent of the company’s total sales.

Bruton said today’s announcement was “great news” for Mullingar and the surrounding region. The firm already employs 75 people.

“A central part of the Government’s plan for jobs and growth is creating a powerful engine of indigenous, export-focused companies. Manufacturing must be a particular focus as we seek to create the jobs we need, and last week we announced the establishment of a manufacturing development forum which will report back within six months on specific measures which we can take to develop this sector,” added the Minister at the launch.

The new jobs are supported by the Government through Enterprise Ireland. A primary area of focus for the company in recent years has been the UK road and rail infrastructure market which is valued at £4.5 billion annually.

‘ The acquisition will boost Ascott’s €1.2 billion portfolio in Europe and bring us closer to our target of 10,000 units in the region by 2020.”

Jeez, where to start with this.

What’s your definition of a monopoly, Anything that has a portfolio bigger than any number you can comprehend ? Ascotts are in the halfpenny stakes when compared to others eg Apple’s 200 billion a year income … a feckin year ffs, not like Ascots piddling net worth of 50 billion

You know the way the Irish get a bee in their bonnets at the suggestion of anything or anyone Irish being part of or from the UK?

Yeah you don’t really have the right to do that if you can’t tell the difference between Singapore and China. They’re not even neighboring countries.
