Two teens among seven arrested over armed robberies

Gardaí carried out 10 raids across Carlow and Laois early this morning.

TWO TEENAGE BOYS and five other men were arrested this morning as part of an investigation into a number of armed robberies and other organised criminal activities in the southeast

More than 60 Gardaí were involved in 10 morning time raids across Carlow and Laois during which a firearm and a small number of cannabis plants were seized.

The operations were part of an intelligence-led investigation into the activities of organised criminal groups whose members are believed to be responsible for more than 70 crimes committed in Carlow, Kilkenny, Tipperary over the past 12 months.

Those offences include aggravated burglary, armed robbery, ATM robberies, attempted ATM theft, carjacking and criminal damage.

The two teens and five men are being detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act. They can be held for up to seven days. The teenagers are being held at Carlow Garda Station, while two more, who are in their 20s, are being questioned at Kilkenny Garda Station. Another two – also in their 20s – are being held at Thurles and New Ross Garda Stations. The final man, who is in his 30s, was taken to Thomastown.

The search and arrest missions were operated by gardaí in the south eastern region who were assisted by members of the Regional Support Unit, detectives from the National Bureau of Criminal investigation and officers from Revenue Customers Service.

Fair play to the Guards if they are the culprits.

More solid police work with intelligence led results. Congratulations to all. This means that people can sleep easier in their beds at night.

We need a lot of more of these operations to discourage this activity. Decent hard working citizens finding everything they’ve worked for stolen or destroyed not to mention the stress it causes. fair play to Gardai under difficult circumstances, it’s good to see some our hard earned taxes being put to work.

Great to see how ye can all judge people that have only been arrested a couple of hours. INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY. TYpical Irish people, maybe if half of the people that pointed there fingers at these people that havent even been to court yet pointed there fingers and shit comments at the government instead well maybe life would be an awful lot easier for everyone. Dont talk shit about something ye know nothing about!
