'Persistent' rain and gusts of up to 90km/h as Status Yellow warnings in place today

Met Éireann has warned that rain will bring accumulations of 25 to 40mm.

LAST UPDATE | 1 Nov 2020

IT’S SET TO be another dull and wet day with “persistent” rain on the way.

A Status Yellow rainfall warning is in place for Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Tipperary until 2am tomorrow.

Met Éireann has warned that persistent rain today and tonight will bring accumulations of 25 to 40mm, with highest totals in mountainous regions.

Some localised flooding is possible, the forecaster said.

A Status Yellow wind warning is also in place for Wexford, Cork and Waterford. It will remain in place until 2am tomorrow.

This afternoon, this evening and for a time tonight, southwest winds will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65km/h, with gusts of up to 90km//h, which will be strongest in coastal areas.

Looking at the general forecast, this morning will be blustery with sunny spells and scattered showers before outbreaks of rain spread in from the southwest to all areas of the country.

The rain will become persistent with some heavy falls, particularly in the southwest.

Southwest winds will remain strong across southern counties and on the north coast.

Outbreaks of rain are forecast across the country tonight, with heavy showers expected later in the night.

Tomorrow will be another wet day with widespread showers forecast. The showers are due to be heavy with a risk of hail and thunder.

@Marcia Craine: A few years back the top French TV weatherman quit because he was told to report ‘weather chaos’ as much as possible….and being a scientist with respect for truth he refused.
So, yes….the intent is to induce fear.

@David Corrigan: Fear of the climate in general is the aim, not just the immediate weather. We used to have unsettled weather with a bit of wind…now it’s status orange threat as killer storm approaches Ireland to wreak deadly havoc and destruction, etc, etc. Lots of hyperbole and alarmist jargon.
The Journal isn’t as bad as other news outlets though, to their credit.
