QAnon-supporting Republican wins US House of Representatives seat

A transgender person has also been elected to the US Senate for the first time.

REPUBLICAN MARJORIE TAYLOR Greene, who expressed racist views and support for QAnon conspiracy theories, has won a seat in the US House of Representatives.

Her candidacy in north-west Georgia was bolstered by US President Donald Trump, who has called her a “future Republican star”.

The votes are currently being counted across the US to elect the US Senate and House of Representatives.

Greene was heavily favoured in the conservative district even before Democratic challenger Kevin Van Ausdal suddenly dropped out in September, saying he was moving out of state.

Greene thanked her staff and asked supporters to pray for Trump to win re-election at a watch party tonight, a video of which was livestreamed on Facebook.

In her remarks, Greene pledged to “fight hard to make sure that Nancy Pelosi and the squad and the radical Democrats in the House do not steal anything away from America, because this country was never ever meant to be a socialist nation”.

Greene is a businesswoman and political newcomer who has gained large followings on social media in part by posting incendiary videos and comments.

She has claimed in online videos that black and Hispanic men are being held back by “gangs and dealing drugs”, alleged an “Islamic invasion” of government offices and accused Jewish billionaire George Soros of collaborating with Nazis.

She has also embraced QAnon, a far-right US conspiracy theory centred around the debunked belief that Trump is fighting a secret campaign against “deep-state” enemies and a child sex trafficking ring of satanic paedophiles and cannibals.

In more recent videos and posts, she has attacked everything from the Black Lives Matter movement to the use of facemasks to protect against coronavirus.

After some of her comments came to light, Greene was condemned by some future House colleagues within her own party, but many other Republicans including Trump and Republican senator Kelly Loeffler have embraced her.

She had a blunt message for her detractors in a speech after winning a Republican primary run-off in August: “I will not apologise.”

“Congratulations to future Republican Star Marjorie Taylor Greene on a big Congressional primary win in Georgia against a very tough and smart opponent,” Trump tweeted after her primary win.

“Marjorie is strong on everything and never gives up – a real WINNER!”

Greene initially started campaigning for a different House seat, challenging Democratic representative Lucy McBath in Georgia’s sixth Congressional District, made up of suburbs north of Atlanta.

She switched to the more conservative 14th District after Republican representative Tom Graves announced that he was not seeking re-election.

Democrats were not able to replace Van Ausdal on the ballot because he dropped out too close to the election, leaving Greene essentially unopposed in the race.

The seat has been open since Graves stepped down in October.

Other new elected politicians

Meanwhile, democratic nominee in Delaware Sarah McBride became the first transgender person elected to the US senate.

McBride won the race for the Delaware senate during Tuesday’s general election, making her the first transgender person to hold office in the state’s upper chamber.

While she joins a handful of other transgender legislators around the country, she is the first transgender person to hold the office of state senator.

She ran on a platform with policies including paid family and medical leave for all workers, reducing costs and increasing competition in the health care industry and strengthening public schools.

If I like someone enough to give them a present, then I want them to be happy with it. If they’re happier to return, exchange or re-gift it than keep it, I have no interest in stopping them. If I know they didn’t like the present, I’ll try harder in future to get them something more suitable.

Of course it’s okay. No point in having something that you won’t use. Plus, if you’re me, all clothes will need to be swapped for a bigger size. Goddamn Quality Street!

Why do some people buy pure rubbish As gifts anyway!!! One4all vouchers Are best option now so u can buy what you want. Personally I always subtly find out what people want/need before I purchase so they’re getting something they actually want. Nobody wants sh!te candles and sprays.

2.7 A monthly inactive balance charge of €1.45 (or the credit balance on the Card, if lower) will be charged after the Card has been in issue for 12 months. This charge will start to be applied from the following month and will continue until such times as the balance on the Card is zero and this Agreement is terminated.

One4All vouchers are just ersatz money. I’d rather have cash that I can spend in any shop, and that doesn’t expire.

Stephen, the main point you left out in your first post was that the deductions don’t start for 12 months. I don’t think it’s unreasonable.

No fees on those cards!! I have several in my wallet that I use from time to time on clothes usually!! You have to use the card within 12 months before any charge is applied! I would assume most people use their vouchers within a year!!! I certainly would!!!

I suppose I’m a bit old school. I don’t really care what people give to me. Its the fact they went out of their way and bought or made something for me. So no I wouldnt return what they bought or made….. Its also the reason I toss gift vouchers in the bin….. If I mean so little that I’m not worth any effort at all, then the gift isnt worth anything to me either…..

Charlie I know many people who prefer gift vouchers. If you don’t know what somebody needs or likes it’s a way of ensuring they are happy with whatever they get. If you give a voucher you are basically saying let me pay for something you really want. That’s based on caring. If you didn’t care you wouldn’t be offering to buy anything. Receiving a gift doesn’t mean any effort went in or thought. I know someone who picked something they liked and gave that same thing to all couples they had to buy for. There’s no effort in that. A voucher is no less effort than that. The thing is sometimes you don’t know persons size/style or even if you ask they say they don’t want anything. Throwing out people’s hard earned money because they gave you a voucher is a much worse thing to do that giving a voucher in the first place.

It would be better if people just stopped giving gifts because as far as I can see a lot of people are ungrateful nowadays . Most people will keep a receipt and then it is fairly easy to change if a size is wrong or something. To give a gift back, to me that would be very ungrateful. I wouldn’t do that to anyone.
