Paris hospitals near capacity after upsurge in coronavirus cases

France is currently in a partial lockdown to try and reduce Covid-19 numbers.

HOSPITALS IN PARIS are near to capacity with an upsurge in Covid-19 patients.

In the French capital, 84 people with coronavirus died in the region’s hospitals, which are at 92% capacity.

There are 1,050 Covid-19 patients in intensive care and another 600 patients in ICU with other ailments, Aurelien Rousseau, head of the Paris region health service, told public broadcaster France-Info today.

France is in a month-long partial lockdown to lessen rising coronavirus hospital admissions and deaths.

Restaurants and non-essential stores are closed, but schools remain open.

The infection rate per 100,000 people remains extremely high at around 480.

With more than 27,000 people in hospital across France, the Covid-19 patients occupy more than 80% of the nation’s ICU beds, according to the public health agency.

That was the highest level since April.

Overall, France has 1.5 million confirmed cases and 38,674 deaths, the seventh-highest toll worldwide.

We are very lucky to have decisive leaders in health and government. Advice needs to be acted upon. And the vast majority of the irish population did just that. Alot more people may have died if our hospitals were choked with critically ill patients.

@TheITGuy: Many covid units within hospitals were closed in June and have not re opened due to a lack of patients. The Pandemic is over and has been over since June.

We need to get back to the normal hospital overcrowding and trolley crises because at least people will be treated.

@Damian Baker: Its propaganda, plain and simple. The infection fatality rate (IFR) from this deadly, deadly, deadly virus is about 0.6%, with the vast majority of those succumbing to this virus being in their 80’s with underlying health conditions, Death is an inevitability of living. The question is, are these lockdowns proportionate….

@Gavin Conran: I am not saying that at all. I am saying that the virus appears to be fatal for aged people most of whom have underlying health conditions. The lockdown is essentially to stop our health service being overwhelmed (it has one of the lowest amount of acute intensive care beds per capita in Europe)

Hospitals in France were already close to collapse before Covid with staff badly paid and under resourced. The first wave hit them and the French media reported public hospitals lost many staff in the summer as very few measures were put in place to add staff. They hired a few, but not enough to compensate the departures and the staff deficit.

Outrageous scaremongering. The real headline should be, “French hospitals are still not full”. How many of those ICU cases would be there even without a suspicion of them having Covid? 80%+, that’s how many. Stop making out that the virus is causing all of the deaths it’s cited in. Look at the data. 95% of the ‘victims’ were literally dying already. How many healthy people under 70 have died? How many more have died this year than in a normal flu season? None.
