Government liaising with Ukrainian authorities over Quinn assets

Brian Hayes has said that the assets are the rightful property of the Irish people.

MINISTER OF STATE Brian Hayes has said the Government is liaising with the Ukrainian authorities regarding the assets of Quinn group in the country.

The Minister of State for Public Service Reform insisted that the assets in question are the rightful property of the Irish people, RTÉ reports.

Last Friday, Justice Elizabeth Dunne handed down prison sentences to two members of the Quinn family – Seán Quinn Jr and Peter Darragh Quinn - after ruling they has not made efforts to reverse steps taken to put assets worth hundreds of millions of euro out of the reach of the Irish Bank Resolution Corporation, formerly Anglo Irish Bank. The assets in question mainly involve properties in Ukraine and Russia.

Yesterday it was confirmed that Seán Quinn Jr, the son of bankrupt businessman Seán Quinn, is to serve his three-month sentence in the Training Unit of Mountjoy Jail – a semi-open, low security prison.

Meanwhile an arrest warrant has been issued for Peter Darragh Quinn after he failed to turn up to court for questioning on Friday. His location is unknown. Gardaí have visited all of his known addresses in the Republic, however his home in in Fermanagh – outside of Garda jurisdiction. The PSNI have said that an European arrest warrant has not been issued and, as his offence is not criminal, it is unlikely that one will be.

Seán Quinn Sr has been given more time to comply with the courts orders.

I don’t think you will have long to wait but wouldn’t it be sad if all of these comments were used by their defence to suggest a trial shouldn’t proceed because of the bias shown through continuous damaging comments.

    It’s coming ……

Saying that it’s taking so long because of the massive amounts of documents that must be examined and referenced. Don’t envy those investigating.

Biggest challenge is can they get fair trail. Most here are biased against them I’m sure places like this will be referenced by their defence.

No bankers will go on trial. Just as no US or British bankers have gone on trial. The banking & political elite have been in each others pockets for decades. Senior bankers are capable of destroying political careers if they are cornered. Hence, it will not happen.

Hopefully they’ll lock up Quinn senior next month. The cheek of him to go on national tv saying he’d do everything in his power to pay back his 3 billion euro debt while he was doing the complete opposite.

If only he showed the same concern about the other rightful assets of the Irish people. Hayes is a spoofer of the highest order.

This is laughable, Enda Kenny and Btian Hayes telling the Ukrainian government that Ireland owns those properties. Do they not realize that the Quinns were dealing with the Ukrainian mafia in the deals they done to hide assets ? Fine Gael are well out of their depth on this one, they ought to pass it over to Sinn Fein who’d do a better job in getting a deal with this lot

I assume Mr Hayes is liasing with the Courts and the Quinns as to the governments actions vis-a-vis the Ukraine, as this is what the Quinns have been locked up for. Or is the Government on another solo run?

    That’s right Mr Hayes
Give the country away to faceless bankers and bondholders and sell your people as financial slaves.
While you run around doing PR stunts for a corrupt bank.
Do Anglo not have enough (taxpayer funded) useless ”jobs for the boys” types on their payroll?

The impartial fact is, that Quinn would have us paid back by now.
How long are you and our government going to be billing us and our grandchildren for this media freakshow witchunt?

You and your inept likes have destroyed this country and will continue to keep it in a state of perpetual suppression.

Mr Hayes is perfectly correct in protecting assets owned by the People of Ireland and being held outside the State in breach of Orders from the High Court. This is now an issue where sovereign power must be used to ensure the assets are not moved beyond our reach. Clearly the High Court has no jurisdiction outside the State.
It seems that most of the comments posted on this issue suggest that the Government should do nothing to protect what is ours!

Mick Collins, If the Irish High Court has no juristiction, Does Sean Quinn Jnr ? Or has he super powers that we dont know about ? He was jailed on Friday for being unable to reverse this transaction.
Secondly The Quinns say the assets are theirs, Anglo says the assets are theirs. Up to the Court to decide who owns them. The government interfering gives advantage to Anglo. Unfair I believe, and I am an Irish taxpayer, sick of the witchhunt against Quinn.

Sean Quinn’s greatest crime is that he was not born French or German. If he was, not only would his son not be imprisoned, he would have been compensated for any losses occurring from his investments in Anglo. In addition, Brian Hayes would have nothing to say about it, just as he had when Anglo’s bondholders were paid out.
