A LARGE FIRE that broke out at a recycling centre in Ballyfermot is now under control, after Dublin firefighters tackled the blaze for hours last night.
Before 8pm yesterday, Dublin Fire Brigade arrived to attend a fire at an industrial premises in Ballyfermot, Dublin 10.
Firefighters said that they had expected to be at the scene of the fire “for the foreseeable”, and it would be “a protracted incident”.
In total, seven fire engines, a turntable ladder, a water tanker and a foam tender attended the scene.
After 1am, Dublin Fire Brigade said that the fire had been brought under control.
“We’re scaling back our response to the fire as it is now under control. We’re also pumping water from a nearby canal to the fire ground,” it said on Twitter.
In a statement to TheJournal.ie last night, An Garda Síochána said they were “aware of a fire at the recycling centre, Killeen Road, Ballyfermot this evening”.
“Dublin Fire Brigade responded to a call of a fire at approximately 7.45pm,” Gardaí said. “Gardaí are assisting at the scene at this time.”
Smoke warning
Last night, the fire brigade had advised the public to close windows as a precaution if they had been impacted by the smoke plume – particularly if you lived “downwind of the fire”, as the smoke “will travel some distance”.
“Keep all windows and doors closed in Ballyfermot/ Inchicore and surrounds,” Dublin South Central TD Bríd Smith wrote on Twitter last night.
In a statement to TheJournal.ie, Ballyfermot and Drimnagh Councillor Daithí Doolan urged residents to keep their windows closed.
“I am deeply concerned that toxic waste could be in the smoke and could be a threat to people’s health and safety,” Doolan said.
“This site is next to a big residential area,” he said.
Elsewhere in the country, fire services attended the scene of a fire at Cork Port yesterday.
Cork County Council issued a statement this evening to say that the fire was brought under control at 10am and remains contained.
“Fire Service Crews are maintaining a presence on site to expose and extinguish any hot spots that many exist within the storage facility,” the council said.

I’ve my gmail death emails written a few months now to a couple of friends. One person gets a link to a file I have with all my usernames/passwords to all important accounts. Was very weird writing them.
How will the email be sent if you’re dead? Have you arranged for someone to do that?
I’m going to leave all my usernames and passwords with my partner to do as he pleases with them. He knows them all anyway.

Who cares your dead
Your family and next of kin will probably care.
Was weird as shit seeing a close friend of mine constantly in my friends list once she has passed away a few years ago. Her sister eventually deleted her account completely.
You get a life
The best answer is to have your user names/passwords in a sealed envelope with a trusted family member member/friend. Of course they change but keeping these documents updated is worth it. The easiest way for me to contact long-distance people after my mother died was through her email account, and about a month after her death I deactivated it. I was also able to access all of her online accounts, bills, and credit cards in order to close everything out.
Of course, doing all that after she died meant that I had full access before she died. But she trusted me. And I trusted her. It helped that I kept copies of my will, backups of all my photos, copies of passports and email addresses and passwords stored in a sealed envelope in a file cabinet at her house. She had full access to my life as well, and never took advantage of that information.
Mutual trust is needed to make this word. But after my mother died suddenly, this trust certainly helped to close her estate in a timely and respectful manner. Important
As an aside, “Arrange My World” is an Irish software company that deals in keeping/protecting/accessing passwords, important documents, etc. and is a great product that can help organise our digital lives.

We all died many years ago many times.. What we are feeling now is just an illusion. Get over it and move on to the next digital wonderland and don’t dwell in the past or the future.
