@Life in no motion: I think that is the crux of the issue but surely we can absorb a few more hospitalisations but I can’t see them filling up in any way, the vulnerable are vaccinated. The 60-70 will be fully vaccinated soon. Like Delta is here months already. Over a week ago Tony said it was 20% of cases so must be about 30% now. No uptick in cases, hospitalisations or deaths so far. Northern have it even longer there and over 50% of cases, there’s been a slight uptick in cases as they’re more open but very little in hospital and no one in ICU.

These measures are in place in other European countries that have indoor dining. The same countries people used as an example of how Ireland is an outlier in Europe.

If you aren’t infected you don’t infect others. Also, if people are infected, most remain asymptomatic, cutting the risk of transmission.

The personal risk for young people is indeed low, but getting vaccinated is more about cutting down the likelihood of infecting older / vulnerable people.
