@Euro McPúnty: How long until there are posters on here screaming about us being “stuck at 1,000 cases” per day?

@Euro McPúnty: They had such high numbers before, it was horrific and at the time Ireland was doing well, it seems like we are NI of then and they are Ireland at the moment, my hope is we will get to that point.

@Euro McPúnty: I wonder what impact vaccination is having – is there any impact in these consistently reducing figures.

@Ally Mc Culladgh: You are completely wrong and completely lacking context here. Even at 1,000 a day, with our population we are nowhere near as high as the North was. Disgraceful comment, to be honest.

@EnKy: My context was when Ireland was doing well suppressing the virus back in November when we had lockdown? Before we opened up? Think back then yes? Northern Ireland were recording high 60 deaths, 100 previous week.

    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/north-s-hospitals-record-highest-number-of-covid-19-weekly-deaths-1.4421401

    https://www.thejournal.ie/coronavirus-ireland-30-november-5283388-Nov2020/

Two examples around the same time. Ireland doing alot better than Northern Ireland.

Now Ireland is in that situation and Northern Ireland is doing well supressing the virus.

I hope we get to Northern Ireland’s situation as of now….

    Do I make sense….

@Ally Mc Culladgh: Northern Ireland Fri 27th of November

North’s hospitals record highest number of Covid-19 weekly deaths
Coronavirus death numbers increase for seventh consecutive week in Northern Ireland

    Ireland 30th of November
Coronavirus: One death and 306 new cases confirmed in Ireland

Northern Ireland right now are to Ireland’s positison back then and we are in Northern Ireland’s place

I want us to be like that again, was my point.

Almost1/3 of the population have received their 1st dose of the vaccine. That is a major factor.

Excellent numbers, shows the benefit of a good vaccination strategy. The UK will be reopened while we’re still stuck on a couple of hundred thousand vaccinations, and our country still in a highly depressing lockdown.

The British government are like a boxer whose being pummelled for an entire fight survived multiple knock downs and sucker punched his opponent at the death and won the fight. In other words they made a balls of the pandemic but their vaccination roll out has won them the day.
