Grammer at the 2020 Vanity Fair Oscar Party SIPA USA/PA Images

Kelsey Grammer to star in Frasier reboot

The revival was ordered by the new streaming service Paramount Plus.

KELSEY GRAMMER WILL be reprising his role as Dr Frasier Crane in a reboot of the much-loved comedy for the new streaming platform Paramount Plus.

Grammer starred in the Seattle-based show that ran for 11 seasons until 2004, with Frasier winning a total of 37 Emmy and a legion of fans before it came to an end.

“Frasier’s back – and he’s more exactly the same than ever,” ViacomCBS said in a statement announcing its new streaming service Paramount Plus.

A number of recent comedy revivals have returned with original cast members but the streaming service didn’t confirm if David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves, and Peri Gilpin will be joining Grammer, and have remained tight-lipped about everything else.

Actor John Mahoney, who played Marty Crane in the show, died in 2018 aged 77.

No release date was given for the reboot, but Frasier itself was a spin-off show with Grammer’s character being one of the members of the ensemble cast that made up 80s sitcom Cheers. Grammar also appeared as the character in the 90s sitcom Wings.

Paramount Plus says it will offer over 50 original series across scripted dramas, kids, reality, comedy, music, sports, news and documentaries in the next two years. You can see the full list of shows here.

No word yet on when the service is launching in Ireland but it will be available in some European countries from 25 March, but ViacomCBS has promised rollouts in additional markets.

I personally think that some art is completely overpriced and maybe this piece is in that group but your son, daughter would never do a piece like that as it can never be replicated,it was conceived out of the mind of an artist in a dark place, its conception is of the moment and of course pieces like this maybe copied but its it originality that you admire. This is actually a study for the main artwork…. This piece of artwork represents more than what is visual.. It represents the artists frame of mind, the poem was written in the moment. “The scream ” is one of the most recognised piece of art ever , the list is endless why this is a very strong piece and therefore probably earns its place as number 1….. For the moment.

I know I spent a lot on this particular painting but was worth it looking at it now hanging in my reception room blending in nicely with the rest of my art collection

The painting actually represents Munch’s own facial expression when in 1895 he was visited by a time traveller from 2012 who advised him of the $119m price tag

I have a poster of that painting and I framed it myself. Cost about €12 in total! I feel sorry for people who buy into materialism like that! Extrinsic satisfaction doesn’t last for very long ;-)

It’s as likely to be bought by an investor as an art lover. Personally, I can’t see how anybody could think the original is worth €118,999,988 more than your almost identical poster; is the master DVD of a film any more artistically meritorious than the copy for sale in HMV?
As long as people think so, then the self-perpetuating “perceived value” will continue to push up art prices.

As a musician and piano player it is the same as my wish to invest in an expensive piano. I know family and friends who own a €200 piano, just about in tune, playable, good laugh, I enjoy playing it. Doesn’t matter a damn though that you can get that enjoyment for that money cos I would very very happily buy a Steinway and sons piano for mabey €30,000. My neighbour would laugh at that price but while I drive a €3000 peugot, he would love a Bugatti Veyron which does the same basic job for €1.2 million. Actually I wouldn’t mind one of those now either…

Mad money alright, to honest kinda for and against it. In one hand if you have that sort of money then why not your paying for the history of painting not just the artwork. Also could be investment later on. But if you have that kind of money be nice to give 112 million to good causes instead of on a painting. And who knows maybe buyer has done both. On a separate note aside from money . The painting drawn emotion which makes it not just a painting but real artwork…
