Woman (50s) dies following fire at house in Derry

Police received reports of the fire at 7.30am.

A WOMAN HAS died following a fire at a house in Co Derry. 

Police received a report of the fire, which happened at the Rossdowney Road area, at 7.30am. 

One woman, aged in her 50s, was taken from the property. However, she died at the scene. 

The PSNI said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined and will be subject to investigation, in liaison with the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service. 

The Rossdowney Road has been closed following the incident. 

SDLP Foyle MLA Mark Durkan said people in the area “are in shock”. 

“I want to offer my sincere condolences to the lady’s family and friends at an incredibly difficult time,” said Durkan. 

“I spoke to neighbours this morning who are shocked and deeply saddened.

“I also want to pay tribute to the emergency responders who attended the incident this morning for their bravery and professionalism.”

    Whats next, the introduction of toll charges for walking down the street.

    We don’t even have to buy the tankers.They come here regularly with crude oil to the refinery.Fill them up with the Ballygowan on their return journey to the Middle East.

    @Padraig: Oil distribution developed – water will too – if necessity dictates ! A centralised approach to water is vital – the lack of any business case for the meters is the main issue. HNY all.
