Commemorative coins set to ‘celebrate’ the success of the Euro

For the low low price of €70, you too can have your very own set of commemorative Euro coins.

YOU CAN NOW ‘celebrate’ the success of the Euro by buying your very own set of commemorative coins for €70.

But don’t stop reading in the rush to secure yours; they won’t be available until tomorrow.

The 10th anniversary of the Euro – fittingly denoted by tin and aluminium – marks the pretty uneventful decade since the introduction of the single currency.

An ad, which ran in many of today’s papers, states a limited production of just 5,000, which it’s hoped will “satisfy worldwide demand.”

According to the Central Bank of Ireland, the obverse of the €2 commemorative coin – or front, in non-coin related jargon – “symbolises the way in which the euro has become a true global player over the past ten years, as well as its importance in life,” presumably making reference to how a lack of them in people’s pockets is proving rather important.

The four symbols on the special coin have been deemed to represent the various aspects of modern life and in this regard, TheJournal.ie thinks they’ve done a pretty good job.

Trade is represented by a ship, which Ireland’s emigrants will be more than familiar with at this stage. Less unfortunate symbols represent ordinary people in the form of a family of four, industry by way of a factory and energy with wind powered stations.

For €70 all this and more can be yours. Now all we need is for a couple billion more coins to be minted and put in a large envelope addressed for Ireland, Europe.

Isn’t selling things that are worth €2, (such as a two euro coin for example) for €70 the kind of thing that caused the crisis to begin with?

Hardly. They are only minting 5000 and at €70 a pop this will only raise 350,000€. Don’t this would go to far when it comes to deficits!

Not really. If you have the coin set commemorating the euro just before it collapses it might be worth a bit to a collector a few decades down the road.

Celebrate the success of the euro? The ‘success’? The Euro is a piece of garbage that is tottering on a cliff.
I would love to celebrate the destruction of the euro.
