FORMER US PRESIDENT Bill Clinton is as popular among Americans now as after he was elected to the White House, according to a recent Gallup poll.
According to the opinion poll, 66 per cent of Americans view Clinton favourably – his highest level of support since his inauguration in 1993 as US president.
He also has a near-record low unfavourable rating of 28 per cent.
The poll results suggest Clinton could be one of the more influential speakers at the upcoming Democratic National Convention. Clinton’s speech backing Obama at the 2008 convention was seen as a boost for the then-first time presidential candidate in winning over the support of people who had been backing Hillary Clinton’s nomination as candidate.
Obama is currently viewed favourably by 54 per cent of Americans – but his approval ratings have been closely tied with those of Republican Party candidate Mitt Romney. The Republican National Convention is being held in Florida at the end of next month.
However, the Gallup poll suggests that Clinton could hold some sway over Republican voters – with almost half (44 per cent) of Republicans saying they see him favourably. He could also help draw in new support for Obama, particularly among non-white voters and young voters with favourable ratings of 80 per cent and 71 per cent in those groups.
Gallup says that 68 per cent of men and 63 per cent of women polled view Clinton favourably, compared with 27 per cent of men and 30 per cent of women who view him unfavourably.
The survey of 1,014 adults from across the 50 states was carried out between 9 and 12 July.

I’m sure Bill Clinton did lots of good while he was in power but don’t forget he repealed the Glass-Steagall Act which had kept commercial and investment banking sepetare. The repeal of this act as been cited by many economists as directly contributing to the recent financial troubles in the US. Investment banks are able to gamble with customers deposits as a result which they had been unable to do in a grand scale before the repeal of the act. I think Clinton did great work with the peace process here in Ireland though.
Next up: An article on how George H.W. Bush’s, and Condoleeza Rice’s even better favourable ratings will help Mitt Romney.
Of course, people aren’t voting for Bill Clinton. It’s equally as likely that people will see him and think “boy, that Obama is a total chump compared to Bill. Let’s get rid of him”.

I read an interesting piece lately which outlined that the US banks have made twice as much money under Obama as they had in all the eight years under Bush. Makes you wonder if it matters whether a Republican or Democrat comes into power in the US.
Clinton was a good President.

The only good thing Clinton did was to make the unemployed put some effort into getting the welfare. All else was smokes and mirrors. In particular his foreign policy was utter disaster. He allowed the NASDAQ bubble out of control, he let the 1000 flowers of Al-Qaeda blossom, he allowed a brilliant military victory in Mogadishu to be turned into a PR disaster and withdrawal, he bombed Serbs only to divert attention from the Monica scandal.
Yugoslavia was bombed because of ethnic cleansing, don’t be flippant.
Yeah, sure. Ethnic cleansing began in 1991 and bombing took place in 1999. Lewinsky affair escalated mid 1998. Go figure.
Bill Clinton was called to attend a Bilderberg meeting when he was a lowly Governor of Arkansas.Two years later he’s president i think charm won him the race aswell as the backing of suerbankers.He showed interest in the North of Ireland but Senator Mitchell was the main man in that peace process.Had the token war to keep his military buddies happy and shagged the secretary lets not put him on a pedestal of greatness an the americans are entitled to their opinion but most of the country believes Fox News to be a credible news outlet so thy have along way to go yet .Clinton no worse than Bush no better than Obama.P.S he’s wife was the brains there and she’s as power hungry as ever the strokes she’s pulling in Syria she should pack it in and go dance with the devil bankers and oil barons …
