Gardaí fine unaccompanied learner driver travelling at 139kph in 100 zone in Naas

The vehicle was seized and a fixed-charge penalty notice (FCPN) was issued.

GARDAÍ IN NAAS have fined a learner driver caught travelling at 139kph in a 100kph zone.

The driver was an unaccompanied learner-permit holder with no L-plates displayed, Gardaí said. The vehicle was seized and a fixed-charge penalty notice was issued.

The South Roads Policing unit of the Dublin Metropolitan Region also stopped a driver yesterday afternoon after detecting the car travelling at 147kph in a 100kph zone.

Gardaí from this unit stopped another driver doing 143kph in a 100kph zone. A fixed-charge penalty notice was issued.

    @David A. Murray: i agree had the driver crashed and there been a loss of life or damage to property it would certainly be news. However, been stopped and fined by the gardai hardly constitutes news in anyones eyes… oh and also i am fairly confident the person in question is still not out there zooming up and down that road at the time the article is written so i am curious as to why it would be news to people on this (unspecified) route?     @Mjhint: Seems the TD’s who are publicly ripping into the insurance companies may be having an effect. 3 quotes in last few days, all under €380. Haven’t seen it that low in about 12yrs. Hope it starts to trickle down to the younger drivers.

    @Divad Nayr: Not sure why you need to convert it to British units but anyway, that’s exactly what the Gardaí should be doing. An unlicensed driver speeding is a real crime (two in fact).

    Learner drivers going 139 mph in a 100 mph zone would cause a major pile up if he crashed his car …….god help the ordinary drivers on the road trying to avoid him !! Should be taken off the road and banned for years from driving

    Still can’t understand people’s need to drive above the speed limit, it’s not as if they’ll get to where they want to be half an hour earlier! And what’s more sad is these people only get the lesson of slowing down when they get into an accident and ‘unintentionally’ kill someone. I don’t know how you can’t intentionally wish someone dead if you intentionally drive at reckless speeds.
