The Explainer: Has Covid changed the way we work?

On this week’s podcast episode, we look at how working from home might work in a post-Covid world.

THE PAST 14 months have seen the world of work completely change in Ireland.

A swathe of workers who normally work in offices found themselves working at home, after the Covid-19 pandemic forced the government to tell people to work from home wherever possible.

That message from government hasn’t changed, and looks unlikely to until the country reaches a sufficient vaccination rate.

This month on the Good Information Project, reporters explored the new world of work. They looked at work and childcare after Covid; the right to disconnect; the Universal Basic Income; work and disability; and how managers will re-learn post-pandemic.

So for this week’s episode of The Explainer, we’re joined by Brian Whelan of The Good Information Project to give us an overview of what they examined. Then, reporters Sean Murray and Adam Daly talk Sinéad O’Carroll through some of the aspects they explored in their articles.

10,000 to attend Mass with the Pope at a football stadium today. Why does he think it is ok to put their lives at risk of contracting covid at this mass gathering? Of course Fran has been vaccinated so he is alright Jack!

@Fionn Darland: obviously never been to croke park. 10000 on a large pitch and in the stands is a very small amount with plenty of room for social distancing.

@JPM: Yet our medical advisers are not fine with allowing 10,000 into Croker. Only 200 or so were allowed for the Eid celebration.
Those attending are likely unvaccinated so they have no protection when mixing, touching turnstiles, using toilets, travelling there on public transport etc. High risk of transferring the disease….no?

It would appear that Pope Francis did not have enough information about the virus…..if he did he would not have travelled. Large crowds banned here to avoid serious illness and death
