The Daily PollTHE EUROVISION IS set to come back with a bang this week as the Netherlands hosts the 65th edition of the song contest.
With Covid-19 very much still with us, the contest won’t be held in the same way as it has done in previous years. But there will be an audience in the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam as 39 countries vie for the crown.
Love it or loathe it, the contest remains hugely popular – over 180 million people tuned in to watch the final in 2019.
Lesley Roy will represent Ireland with the song Maps. She’ll be performing in Tuesday’s semi-final in a bid to take part in the main night on Saturday.

Just to see Ireland get probably 5 points and RTE trying to justify why we are once again flushing taxpayer’s money down the drain on some pointless contest and the usual meltdown by people after. Ah sure what else would ya be at, just a pity I can’t be in a pub to watch it, and do the buy a drink for every point Ireland gets challenge..

It’s called a song contest yet there is no contest to pick our song. Father Ted got irelands attitude spot on. Whatever happens make sure the irish entry is pants.
@Chris Mc: I agree to a point, but the last time Ireland did a national contest we didn’t make it out of the semi final. The quality is just not there. The bar is so high in other countries like sweden
@Chris Mc: You’re a Star was a big thing but it only took the second series to show we were getting stuffed year after year, even when those singles were #1 in the charts here. Its only when you send acts tailor made for the Eurovision weirdness like Jedward that we get anywhere in it nowadays.

Of course I will, the Eurovision & the Rose of Tralee are my favourite shows. I cancel everything else in order to watch them. I couldn’t cope last year when the RoT was cancelled! :-))

The Eurovision is not for everyone, but it’s the most watched non-sporting event in the world. Ireland has a representative in Lesley Roy, and a pretty good song, so you can either support her or watch something else. Either way the contest is taking place regardless of how much you dislike it.
The Journal is so creative and unpredictable with these poll ideas. Fair play to them lol

If we had no pandemic you would be able to walk into any pub in any part of the country while this thing is on T.V. and witness far greater musical talent and musicians.
The songs are terrible so I give that part a miss but I tune in for the voting, that’s the most exciting part. The politics really come into play, despite the denials.
Of course, its always fun to vote for your favourites and generally the music is really good to warrant getting the cd. Its best to watch it as a contest and pick your favourite song and root for it to win rather than watch it to see Ireland win
