File prepared for NI prosecutors after 'false' sexual assault claim

The PSNI had been investigating reports of a sexual assault in Dromore, Co Down – but now say allegations were “false”.

A FILE is being prepared for Northern Ireland’s Public Prosecution Service after a 22-year-old woman was found to have made false allegations about a sexual assault.

A spokesperson for the Police Service of Northern Ireland said a file was being prepared for the PPS in relation to “false allegations” made by a 22-year-old woman.

Police officers had yesterday sought witnesses to the incident, which was alleged to have taken place in Dromore, Co Down, on Sunday evening.

“It was reported that shortly before 10pm a woman in her 20s was assaulted by a male in the area of Mills Park,” police had said.

It is expected that the file being prepared for the PPS would lead to charges being brought for wasting police time and resources.

If she’s found guilty then her sentence should be the same as her “assailant” would have received.

So so many false reports. It’s awful crime when it does happen but majority or complaints are false or not accurate, which makes it hard on the real victims.

Crap like this would sicken you! Takes away from the genuine cases & Someone’s good name can be ruined long before it makes it anywhere near a Criminal Court or before the person reporting owns up!! Not on!!

I don’t know where you get ‘a majority are false’. I don’t think that is true. However I do agree that the crime is very difficult to disprove. If consensual sex has occurred and the woman later claims rape, proving or disproving the rape is very problematic. It seems that the burden of proof is raised for this type of crime. I think quite rightly so.

The majority of cases are real and they aren’t even reported because it’s just way too hard to get a conviction. It is not the case that the majority are false, and this is important to state because it’s already hard enough.

But those who falsely accuse people of sexual assault should not be tolerated, it’s terrible that it goes on at all.
