Children under 12 won't need a PCR test when entering the State from next week

Cabinet approved the change today to bring Ireland in line with other EU countries.

CHILDREN AGED UNDER 12 won’t need to take a PCR test when entering the State from next week.

This rule currently applies to those aged under seven, however, Cabinet approved the change today to bring Ireland in line with other EU countries.

Ireland is to reopen to international travel from 19 July.

Hundreds of thousands of people are set to receive their Digital Covid Cert from today and over the coming weeks.

The Digital Covid Cert is proof that travellers have been fully vaccinated; have received a negative test result; or have recovered from the virus.

It was confirmed today, after some confusion at government level, that those who have had Covid-19 in the last six months who wish to travel will be able to contact a call centre which will then issue a recovery certificate.

A call centre will be set up from 19 July where people can request the Digital Covid Cert.

Fully vaccinated people began receiving their Digital Covid Certificates this week.

People who were vaccinated via the HSE portal are receiving their certs via email.

Those who were vaccinated by their GP or in a pharmacy are receiving it in the post.

Irish citizens will still be allowed to travel for non-essential reasons from 19 July even if they don’t have the certificate.

Those without a certificate will still be able to travel if they have proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test.

Finally a little bit of sense being used by the government. I guess the job is done at this stage by putting people off booking flights the last few months. Shocking that this is only coming out less than a week before the DCC is supposed to began here. What they really need to clear up now is if unvaccinated people who arrive/return need to isolate as there’s been mixed messages the last few weeks.

Does that mean if you are vaccinated you do not need a PCR test to enter Ireland?

@Denis K: Can you please clarify a point (DFA site is not crystal clear on this)? If you are fully vaccinated (Pfizer) outside EU, say USA and have documented proof of this, is a negative PCR test result still needed additionally for arrivals on July 19, 2021 (or later). Thanks in advance.

@Roland Kelly: From what I understood, unless the situation in us gets worse, you will not need a pcr test or quarantine. They can utilise am emergency break for countries outside of the eu with bad outbreaks. For now, you’re safe I think

@John Dowdall: depends on the country and Ireland is changing to come in line with the rest of the countries using Dcc. Currently that is under 7. You do not need any test to leave the country as such, it is the entry requirements of the country that you are going to is the issue.
