PHOTOS: Giant sand sculptures return to Dublin Castle

If the most impressive thing you’ve ever done with sand is make a sandcastle you might want to look away now.

IF THE MOST artistic thing you’ve ever done with a lot of sand is to make a sandcastle, you might want to look away now.

A team of artists who’ve clearly graduated beyond the brute force bucket-and-spade approach are currently putting the finishing touches to three giant sculptures made out of sand in the courtyard of Dublin Castle.

Duthain Dealbh – meaning ‘Fleeting Sculpture’ – are a trio of artists who have created giant free standing sculptures on location every year for the past ten years.  This year’s theme is ‘Bright Sparks’, inspired by the work of Irish scientists.

These pictures show artist Daniel Doyle finishing off his sculpture based on the mathematician and physicist William Rowan Hamilton:
