Sofa Watch: A prince among Danes and the star of the Scottish play

All you need to know about your chat show options tonight.

AS ANOTHER FRIDAY night rolls around, a bit of light banter might help to break up the monotony.

With the evenings getting darker, there’s no better night to sit on the couch and enjoy some quality chat shows.

  • The Late Late Show, RTÉ One, 9.35pm

Ahead of the release of her new Netflix film, Passing, Ruth Negga is leading the line-up on tonight’s Late Late.

The Oscar nominee will join Ryan to talk about her career on screen and stage – She’s set to star in a new adaptation of Macbeth on Broadway alongside Daniel Craig next year.

Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel will be on the show to talk about his new book, One: My Autobiography. He’ll be chatting to Ryan about his successful spell at Man U, his regrets about leaving the club, his father who was a Polish double agent, and the pride he feels in his own son – Leicester and Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

Also flogging his new memoir tonight is Kodaline frontman, Steve Garrigan. He’ll be talking about a life dealing with shyness, anxiety and panic attacks.

Model Rosanna Davison will Ryan about her turbulent journey to motherhood. From suffering 15 miscarriages, surrogacy, to the surprise of carrying identical twin boys throughout the pandemic.

The father of the three children whose mother was found not guilty of their murder by reason of insanity earlier this year, Andrew McGinley, will also sit down with Ryan to discuss his life today.

Music tonight from Mick Flannery and Susan O’Neill who will be singing a duet called Are We Free? Then Clannad legend Moya Brennan will perform her new single with world-renowned accordion player Liam O’Connor.

  • The Graham Norton Show, BBC One NI, 10.45pm

Over in London, Graham is joined in the studio by Killing Eve star Jodie Comer. She’s staring in the new Ridley Scott film, The Last Duel (the reason Matt Damon was hiding out in Dalkey during lockdown last year).

Also on the red couch tonight is Four Weddings star Andie MacDowell, talking about Netflix dramedy Maid; award-winning singer and star of Pose, Billy Porter; the star and creator of BBC comedy-drama Back to Life, Daisy Haggard; and Texas, who perform their new single Unbelievable.

@Mick Hannigan: Insanity we won’t own the network but it won’t be stopped. It is all about transfering public money into private hands. Neo-liberalism 101.

@Mick Hannigan: They should just wait another year or 2 for musks starlink. Satelite broadband low latency and most likley cheaper than all other providers. I dont understand how they can charge up to 75 per month here and u get 2 times speed on continent for less than half the cost.

€980k isn’t an exorbitant sum in legal fees over two years given the size of the underlying contract; however, expect the final figure for legal fees to end up being many multiples of that figure

So what happens when Elon Musk’s starlink is operational, would we even need a rural wired broadband?!?

Look like this problem is soon to solve itself and we will have wasted €3,000,000,000 of taxpayers money

@Tony Gordon: never mind starlink, closer to the ground youve got FWA and 5G in place by the end of this year – all done by private companies on a commercial basis.

@Tony Gordon: A giant vanity project by Musk which will lose investors a fortune. Even 5G has already surpassed anything Starlink can offer, so will only be an attractive offering in areas where 4/5G is not an option, and areas where 4/5G are not currently available tend to be either low population density areas or poor areas. Even if Starlink is to break even it’s offering will be expensive.

There is more than 1 virus destroying this economy, & outrageous legal costs is up there.
Surely our AG has his own team of leagle beagles, so why this expense on top?
Just read the motor insurance claims analysis, & 33% of settlements went to lawyers. That indicates that there is huge scope to cut insurance premium costs, if the state sets up a 3rd party only insurance, on regulated compensation terms, & let the foreign outfits offer better policies on a competitive basis.
Same for voluntary non profesdional sports & social organisations to halt the steady destruction of these by liability insurance cost.

@Ollie Conroy: fwa is garbage, I’m on so called 5g and have 2mb right now and every evening and weekend.

Have you any idea of the density and backhaul needed for 5g.. and the continual replacements that will be needed to “fix” Xg every 5 years or so. We’ve flogged the fwa horse enough already.
