A PEDESTRIAN IN his 40s has died after a collision involving a car in Co Tipperary.
Gardaí responded to reports of a collision shortly after 10pm last night involving a car and a pedestrian on the R499 between Toomevara and Ballinamona Cross.
The pedestrian, a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been taken to University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem will take place at a later time.
The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital as a precaution.
The road is currently closed to allow Forensic Collision Investigators to examine. Local diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward, particularly any road users who were travelling on the road at this time who may have camera footage.

The headline makes no sense
It makes total sense to me, they must have changed it. There were 650,000 guests in the last year and Irish hosts made €27,000,000. Am I missing something?

Well, when a couple stays in a room it’s counted at 2 guests but the host might just get money for one room.

Kill airbnb and you kill Irish tourism boom
I live in an apartment building in Dublin. About one half of the apartments are now AirBNB. It causes anti social problems, high wear and tear on common areas, anti-social problems, displacement of long term residents, disruption and upset. But there is big money to be made in the right areas.
The turnover of occupants makes it look like a hotel.
I arrived in late one night to encounter 2 guys urinating in the lift. The main doors of the apartment building are often left on the latch for those who don’t have keys. Damage has increased but the money is everything.
The Management company are strongly supportive of AirBNB use and have advised the minority of owner occupiers to move out and to use their apartments for AirBnB.
On,y a matter of time before there is a fire.

Are you sure it’s not all the illegal economic migrant chancers you have provided a home for in you apartment causing the problems Michael? If it was me I would prefer tourists contributing to our economy by spending money and increasing out tax take.
Hi. Check this success story. “High court old presbytery apartments” the OMC obtained an injunction against owners renting out to tourists. It’s a breach of planning: no insurance: breach of the covenants in the lease; clearance with the revenue would have been jeopardised: check the planning and terms of the lease!! It’s that simple really!

Interesting that the conditions you describe are exactly the same as a friend of mine who also lives in an apartment block, which has seen more and more non-Irish move in (you know mass-immmigration and all that) and has slowly but surely seen an ominous atmosphere of certain types congregating and the state and conditions of the property go to hell, urination in lifts, rubbish all over the place etc.
Air B&B have ruined the rental sector in most countries now, of course greedy landlords and agents are delighted, I have not forgotten that the pig Noonan did a lot of damage here too.

Lot of landlords giving notice to tenants saying their selling then doing the airbnb,much more lucrative than renting long term if you have the time.

@Dave cullen: If a landlord is ditching long term tenants for an average income of €2,700 in rural Ireland from Air BNB. I would suggest that landlord is going nowhere very fast.
Lots of hotels getting in on the Airbnb action as well.

An income of €2,700 from AirBnB before costs and expenditure for providing that service, nothing to write home about here. What surprised me is that the figure is so low.
Ireland must be a country of stable settled communities with long ancestral roots and heritage, not resemble something like an airport terminal.
What was the tax take I wonder
