Something to get tongues wagging

euphoria / YouTube

Euphoria, the acclaimed and controversial HBO drama about sex and drugs amongst US teens, is back for a second series.

The Emmy-winning show features stars Zendaya and Maude Apatow and the return deals with the fallout from the dramatic two-episode special that aired last Christmas.

Zendaya issued a trigger warning to her 121 million (!) Instagram followers that the new series is “deeply emotional” and “for mature audiences”.

That’s one way to build up the hype.

When’s it on? Mondays at 10pm on Sky Atlantic and streaming on NOW TV

Something heroic

Sport TG4 / YouTube

TG4′s much-loved GAA series which profiles the personal lives of some of the best loved players for all codes returns for a new series.

The six-episode Laochra Gael devotes a full hour to each of the players profiled to reveal fresh and sometimes unexpected insights into the lives of these icons.

This season we will see profiles of players such as Terence ‘Sambo’ McNaughton of Antrim, Sue Ramsbottom of Laois and Limerick’s Joe McQuaid.

When’s it on? Thursday at 9.30pm on TG4

Something you may have missed

IGN / YouTube

Colin Farrell and Jack O’Connell star in five-part miniseries The North Water about a 19th century whaling expedition to the Arctic.

The series was jointly made by the BBC and its Canadian equivalent CBC and it debuted on TV last summer to positive reviews.

If you didn’t catch it last year own public service broadcaster has bought the rights and will be showing from this week.

When’s it on? Thursday at 10.30pm on RTÉ 2

Something chatty

PastedImage-70648

The Late Late or Graham Norton on Fridays, Tommy Tiernan on Saturdays, so how about a Sunday night chat show?

John Bishop feels like a regular on Norton’s show but the Liverpudlian comedian has now been given his own programme on the opposite side of the couch.

Paul Weller, Trevor Noah, James Acaster and Felicity Ward were among his first guests.

When’s it on? Sunday at 10pm on ITV One

@Alan McArdle: People don’t bat an eyelid at a warning before a programme that there are scenes that might distress people, those have been around a long time. There’s no particular topic I’d avoid watching on screen but I’m not going to get my knickers in a twist because the star of a show gives a heads up for stuff like sexual assault, heavy drug use etc that some might want to avoid.

@Megan Elizabeth FW: Of course by even commenting I’m doing what the Journal intended to induce – engagement by including the TW info in the headline to get people annoyed

@Megan Elizabeth FW: I recall the warnings on telly years ago but that tended to be for fairly heavy content for kids and the like. People are ‘triggered’ by anything these days but you’re right, there’s a bang of self-promotion.

@Alan McArdle: It’s not years ago though, it’s been happening for years and still happens all the time for heavy topics on TV. People just love to get annoyed at the mere phrase ‘trigger warning’ when it’s a psychological term around years. Just because the internet has blurred it a bit now and people love to go ‘HAHA TRIGGERED!’ if someone so much as responds to something they said it doesn’t mean there isn’t still a need for them. Like I said, I don’t need warnings for anything, that doesn’t make me better than anyone but I can still appreciate they’re useful for people who find it difficult watching certain things played out.

Yep, more clicks because they’ll get people moaning and bothered about trigger warnings and ‘snowflakes’ while they try to show how unbothered by everything they are :D

@Brian Dunne: you need to delete and add them back again. Here’s how:

    Turn on your Sky box
Press “Services” on your Sky remote
    Select “Options” from the menu.
Scroll sideways to the “Add channel” tab and enter these settings:
    Frequency: 10.891
    Polarisation: H
    Symbol Rate: 22.0
    FEC: 5/6
    Standard: DVB-S
    Modulation Scheme: QPSK
Once all of these are set, press the yellow button to find channels
Once the search completes, you’ll see loads of “ITV” options.
Highlight one and press the yellow button
Press the green button to save your settings
    Finally, press the “Select” button.
